Got it! Thanks so much

Got it!

Thanks so much Simmo.

The IO was never officially imported into South Africa as far as I know, the few that are here are "grey" imports so no parts backup.

As soon as I get back to the city I will have one cut.

Cheers

Rick

bash plate design...thanks to Fab72

I have one of the PDF file for the bash plate design made and paid by Fab72. Fab72 and opted to share the design for us to use. I don't know how to upload a PDF file so I changed it to a picture, at least every one can print it and use it.

Change in angle

Hi Guys,

Just a quick question.  I have had by bash plate cut, but am wondering about the 25 degree bend.

Because my car has a diff drop, would that mean, that the bend would have to be more? As the Diff is sitting lower?

Cheers

OK - not likely,

the bash plate will simply angle up more - if anything the mounting holes will be further appart as the angle is slightly longer.

note: the bends in the plate are an approx fitment - you can make it fit much better by putting some extra folds in it - check out B-E-N-C's plate as it has an extra two folds.

mine now has these folds too but as a result of smashing into lots of things >:D

DXF

Hi Guys

I am also from South Africa, and would like to know if anyone can send me the DXF file for the Bash Plate?

I am also currently looking into building and designing my own Drawer System for my 2006 Pajero 3.2DID LWB

and would gladly share my drawings when I'm done if anyone is interested.

I have also came across guys that have made their own replacement bumpers, so will probably investigate that as well.

Regards

Armand

I have just removed the OE

I have just removed the OE sump cover/bash plate.  I don't do extreme off roading, just farm fields.  Can I happily leave the thing off; it is only a thin bit of tin and has a lot of holes cut in it?.

Work in progress on my just acquired delapidated  2003 Vivo 11 Junior in need of TLC

Do it right, use Hammerite.

Why simpify when it is simpler to complicate.

Even if it is only very thin it still can save you by stopping something going in, like a small branch.....it only take 2 min to fit anyway.

Up to you mate! I was lucky enough to get on the run of 6mm or 7mm aliminum ones that were done a while back..

Can't speak for Ali VS Steel but mines had an absolute work out and at stages been a the only point of contact at the front and it's still straight with a few  scratches.

If you intend to do more intense offroad I'd reccomend ali but then agian have no no experience with steel! $100 is cheap enough to give it a go I think!

Both have their pros & cons.

Steel is heavier, stronger & rusts; aluminum is lighter, less strong, so you need to use thicker plate, and rust is a non issue - aluminum is also softer and rocks will gouge it - whichever you choose, do not use checker or diamond plate.

My plate is 5 mm thick (from memory) alloy and I have checker plate, I think that it look better than plain alloy and age a bit better as you don't see the mark as much.  As above, I will add that alloy is more $$$ and that the noise when you hit a small rock is much nicer on alloy than steel.

Both will protect the car the same.

It's your car

Flat plate slides over rocks more easily than checker plate - but hey - it's your money, it's your car - that by the way is also one of the advantages of steel, it slides more easily than aluminum, the rocks gouge the softer aluminum, but slide aganst the steel.

Put a piece of checker plate down on sand and push it, put the same sized piece of flat plate down and push it - which one slides more freely - this can be the difference between getting bogged or making it through.

Lol, spray it with silicon it will slide so much more...lol....wink

yes true but the difference won't get you stuck from one to the other.  If anything the io insert will tend to stop you a bit more than the checker plate.

Anyway if a rock touch the front of the plate,..stopping might not be a bad option....

The very big advantage of steel is the cost.

Hey -

I purcahsed the alu plate direct from Ulrich and had it laser cut - you can likely cut with a steel blade circ.saw or jigsaw if you wanted to DIY - happy to email DXF

I had mine fabricated at Laws

I had mine fabricated at Laws Lasers in Brisbane.

They supplied the aluminium and did all the cutting and bending for $262 (with the stencil cutout). I think they outsourced the bending. Was a 4 day turn around if I remember right.

I just sent them the CAD file.
