front bar

Why this thread has died? Hey Bob, if you go to Brazil...let us know because you are not going to believe it, but I know a few people that would looove to have some spares for they car, yeah from Brazil devil.

Ktm, how is the winch fixation going? Have you made a strong enough base for it? How about the electrical?and the access to it?. I thought to hide it behind the number plate...

Does anyone know the weight of this sexy front bar? I read the add from the guy in Brazil who have that unreal io, it does have a front winch of 12000 lbs and they are very heavy and his car have a custom suspension and a "pump up" engine to move the lot! I would be thinking twice before getting the "nice" front bar because of that extra weight. We may have to ask Dobinson to keep their heavy spring wink. Still I have to say that it is a BEAUTY...

I have seen a 6000lbs winch on ebay, and I think that Ktm idea is more suitable, for me anyway. They are a lots of cheaper, lighter, 4000 lbs but are they enough? maybe not...

Happy io.

4000 lbs

4000lbs is only like 1.8 tons, I doubt that would be enough if you are in a serious bog. I would think if you were loaded up and had a pretty serious bog, you would want a 9000lbs. Especially if you were dealing with Ebay winches.

.

My winch/bar is on the back burner for now. Had to buy lockers, put in a pool etc.

Though it has progressed nicely. I have a full cradle tacked up.

I tested a similar fully welded frame on the press & it bent @ 10 -15T.

The electrics shouldn't be much more than a serious crank battery upgrade. I have no intention of going with a duel set up.

It could still happen this year.

For me 5 or 6000lb is ample for a small car like these.

Doubled up with a snatch block, piece of piss!

cheers

winch

Thanks, if you have some pics, just to give me some general idea, that would be great. Whenever...that will be for later for me as well. My electrical skill is not the best, I can wire the light for the tow bar, but not much more:) . I agree on the size, I don't want to dry the little beast in the tree!

Go to bed, you have some "show" to do tomorrowlaugh

Happy io.

Pajero IO Dimensions

I was wondering if you would have the CRITICAL DIMENSIONS of the Bullbar?

it looks like a good design but I have a design in mind that i would like to try to Fabricate and Design on PTC Pro Engineer or AutoDesk Inventor... either way, I would like to know the Dimensions of the Critical Points where the BullBar would have to mount but also the dimensions of the line that the bullbar has to follow below the lights etc..

Thanks

everytime i look at this car,

everytime i look at this car, i just want that bar... i think i know now what my tax return this year is going towards...
i was quoted late last year $1850 USD inc. shipping for one to Australia. looking on a couple of other forums and stuff, ARB bars are about the same for Hiluxs, Cruisers, Prados, Patrols, soim kinda thinking why not

Thoughts...

everytime i look at this car,

Can't blame you! What not to like on this car!? I would love the complete set up:) or at least get the same access to spare part like the front bar in Australia. Would you get the winch as well?

At least we know that it can be done....

i probably wouldn't get a winch just now. but i plan for it in the future. as far as recovery goes, the bar has dedicated recovery points. so as long as i go in a group i can count on these points for recovery if i need to be recovered from the front... insted of using the tie down hooks like i have once in the past

front bar

Looking nice, and not too heavy, and airbag compliant!! I second what you said "damm suzuki" (may be good for them!) With that design, it shouldn't be too hard to find someone to built one, the compliance for the air bag could be more $$$

Come on guys

Don't be haterz - if you want A Suzuki, buy a Suzuki - you'll immediately find out a couple of things - first, that Suzuki owners think Toyotas get everything, and second, that you'll STILL be driving the iO and leaving the Suzuki parked - take it from me, I own a Suzuki ;)

lol yeah no hate against

lol yeah no hate against them... i love my iO. i think the New Grand Vitara is on par with us anyway as far as suspension goes. by that i mean having difficulties lifting and finding longer suspension. but its all about the challenge and for me having something rare and unique. well in my neck of the woods anyway...

Fate plays strange tricks.

A few years back I was hoping to be able to purchase a new 2008 Grand Vitara (JB series), but things didn't work out, and I ended up buying a used '98 (SQ series) instead - over time, as I've learned more & more about the JB series, Ive become increasingly happy that I got the one I have - a new car would have been nice, but in this case, the older model is actually the more capable vehicle.

I consider the new (06 & later) Grand Vitaras to be soft roaders - I'm familiar enough with them to know that there are what I consider significant flaws in the front suspension (it's similar to that found on a number of FWD sedans, eg Mitsubishi Lancers & Toyota Corollas) and unable to withstand the stresses of offroad use, even at standard ride height - lifting the vehicle simply hastens the failure.

I'm assuming these are made overseas, but seeing how 'soft' these suzuki models are, I wonder how many people will really want one of these bare bars on their GV? So I'm not sure I can see the market for them.

But, with over 500 members on this forum now, it would be interesting to speak with these guys about how many pre-orders they would need to build and certify a bar for our iO's, and at what price. I think there would be more of us looking for a bar like this than GV owners. My big gripe with the GV (2005+) is that it is all push button electronic 4wd selection, but I've also heard things about alloy diff housings and as Fordem says about the suspension, I'm not sure if anyone who seriously wants an offroad vehicle would bother with them..?

Size is not important; it's how you use it that matters!

So my 02 io gets here next

So my 02 io gets here next week from NSW. That Brazil bar looks good and I see it like this. Basically it's just 5 sections with 3 bends, each cut and welded then it's powder coated. I want one and I'm guessing under $800 painted and bolted on. As soon as I get mine It will be one of the first things I will do. In reality it doesn't do much (unless you install a winch which I don't agree is worth it compared to a hand winch as then u can go backwards too) so I rekon 2mm steel for the bar then one shackle mount to run through from the chassis on one side. The bar essentially is for better approach angle, not for saving the car. Legality of making my own??? Probably as legal as the lift I am planning. I'll post pics as I go.

its not the size, its the way u use it
