erratic blinking - Center diff lock lights

Hi members,

has anyone had something similar to what I'm facing now?

My centre diff lock light is coming on when I press down on the accelerator pedal. The more I step on the gas, the brighter and quicker it blinks. The moment I take my foot of the pedal; the orange light goes away. This is when I'm in 2h mode (that’s my daily city drive mode).

However, when I shift into 4h, I now get a constant, regular blink. Again, when I step on the gas, the rate of blinking quickens depending on how far I depress the pedal.

I've read on the forum somewhere, members talking about faulty solenoids or the 5 switches on the transfer case. However, in my case, I have no issues shifting from 2h into 4h, or even engaging/disengaging the crawler gears. Everything works smoothly.

I just did a scan using a software called Evoscan, and it gave me a code 24, vehicle speed sensor. It’s been raining cats and dogs here so I haven’t had the chance to crawl under and test out the sensors.

If anyone has had a similar issue, I don’t mind you sharing your diagnosis and fixes.

Right now I don’t know if code 24 is specific to a particular speed sensor, since there is an input shaft speed sensor, output shaft speed sensor, and there might be another one that feeds the speedo meter.......

My Vehicle is a Short Wheel base io (1999).

Neither the solenoids nor the switches will prevent you from shifting between 2H, 4H, 4HLc or 4LLc, they may, depending on which switch/solenoid has failed, affect front freewheel clutch operation - in a nutshell, the transfer case might be in 4WD, but if the front axle is not engaged, there will be no power delivered to the front wheels.

Four of the transfer case switches and the one on the front axle are there to control the warning lights on the dash display, the fifth transfer case switch controls the vaccum solenoids which operate the front freewheel clutch.

There is a soft copy of the factory manual in the resource section, it documents the switches, where they are physically and also how to test them.
