Fuel System Cleaner
"Add to the tank" cleaners rarely work on a GDI engine.
Because the fuel system cleaner does not reach the back of the intake valves on the GDI engines, they do very liitle - but - introduce the same cleaner through the induction system (either the PCV valve or a vacuum line) and it WILL make a noticeable difference.
Now that the GDI engines are in widespread use and the tendency to carbon up the intakes is well known, GDI specific induction system cleaners have been introduced to the market and are readily available.
CRC isn't widely available in
CRC isn't widely available in the UK, however Sea Foam SS14 is available via Amazon in the UK at reasonable cost, similar if not the same.
Will be buying a can for my 1.8 GDI, don't have any issues (car only done 38K miles) but see it as a regular maintenance item to avoid any excessive build up of carbon.
