Gentlemen !

I have a question about the cover that sits over the fuel tank of the car (sort of like a bash plate if that is the correct way to call it). Is the part I mentioned removable from the fuel tank or is it welded/glued or something similar to the edges of the tank ? I noticed a couple of nuts that hold the cover to the tank but it looks to me as if it is somehow attached to the outside seams of the tank...

Does anybody have any experience with that ?

A picture would help.

A picture would probably be helpful - I certainly can't figure out what you're asking about.

The fuel tank on a Pajero iO is mounted under the rear seat - the only "covers" I recall are two plates that under the seat that close the holes that allow access to the fuel pump, filter and gauge senders.

fuel plate

from my experience, there is no welded plate. once you remove the seat cushion, you will find 2 square plates with 4 screws. one leads to the fuel filter and tank, the other leads to the gauge unit. to access the fuel filter and pump unit, unscrew the plate on the right side of the vehicle, you will find 4 screws, then you will see aerially the entire assembly of the pump. the pump is held by a fuel plate which is black in colour. (see the image) the plate is held by 6 nuts and you will need to remove them in order to remove the fuel pump. I hope this helps.

I think I know what he is

I think I know what he is after.

You can see the bash plate/guard above.

I assume it does come off fine as some members here have replaced it with something else home made.

If you are referring to the bash plate

If you are referring to the bash plate at the very top of the picture, I'll start by pointing out that as far as I know, the tank behind the axle is a "Brazil only" offering, the standard tank location is under the rear seat and neither the tank nor any bash plate is visible in the picture.

It's also worth mentioning that there is a difference between over and under - the bash plate is under the tank.

Just my opinion, but when we ask for clarification, it's best to let the original poster explain - all you can do is guess as to what he/she really means.

the nuts are removable, the

the nuts are removable, the bolts are welded onto the tank, and the metal plate is removable once the nuts have been unscrewed from the same welded bolts. Becareful removing the nuts though as if the welded bolts break you will have to reweld them, which means you will have to remove all the fuel from the tank, to prevent a fire.

Cheers.

I have a pajero io gdi 1998 4g93 engine h76w.
