I have a new speedo cable on the way via Amayama.  I need to remove the speedo head or at least get access to fit the new cable to it.  Can anybody tell me how to do this please?

Do it right, use Hammerite.

speedo

The same type of clips that hold the top cover hold the frame closer to you when you sit on the driver side, just hold it and pull towards you, then you will see some screw around the speedo...just unscrew. 5 min job !

I thank you Claude.

So it is the same as the radio surround in principle??????

I am not very good at the pull/tugging so I'll get a flat broad implement into the join.  I broke lots of clips on my Pinin trying to pull!!

Does the cable screw in to the speedo head or is it a push fit do you know??

What about the other end at the transfer box drive gear, does the cable just screw on.  I have nothing to go by as it had some other make of cable held in place with Duck tape and cable ties (which naturally was not working!) so until the replacement comes I am working blind.

Calude, you have to treat me like a 6 year old when explaining cos I am at level moron.blush

After mucho tugging and levering I found two screws holding the surround under the hooded part.  I am surprised I never broke it.  See one of them in this pic.

I'll be pulling the speedo soon- it looks like three screws hold the instrument cluster in place.

.

My mistake, I just realised that we were in the "Junior" section. My io's surround doesn't have these screw, obviously the junior does......

No worries.

I did take a quick look beforehand but the sun was so blinding I went with 'no screws'!  At first I thought there was a clip as there is in the centre cover on the iO which was gripping.

I am trying to build up a library of pics for it.
