driving home late last night I decided to venture down the top end of a new track I had been eyeing for ages. It wasn't in the 4wd earth forum so I thought I was onto something awesome and new.

The track drops down from a ridgeline along a spur then down into a valley. I should have realised that the lack of online listing and vehicle wheel tracks was a sign that this was bad news.
Track twisted down the side of the hill, cut into the slope and was very narrow and rutted, small trees on three track and a few washouts made it exciting. After about 20 minutes the excitement was gone and the reality of having to reverse back the entire way set in. bugger.

Scratched car, dinged sills, smoked clutch.

Moral: it pays to go second.

OUch! I have been in fear of

OUch!

I have been in fear of the same thing many times.Fortunatley I have never had to reverse that far!
It sucks when you have gone that far, wandering If you should give up now or just see whats around the next bend, then whats around the next bend, then the next....

I wander if you would have found somewhere to turn around eventually?

turn around

probably could have found somewhere to turn around but the track was narrow and a near sheer drop on the low side and a cut out on the high side.

main issue was due to 1 foot deep ruts I had to be in 4L and my turning circle sucks, tried in 2H but too rutted.

Could have pulled yourself

Could have pulled yourself around with a winch if you had one?
I know a winch would have helped me out of a similar situation more than once.

Bugger

Sad to hear :(

Caution to others getting recovered backwards in tight spots presents the same damage.

01 ZR LWB, 2 sets of kumho KL71s on rims, custom one off belly plate, lukey sports exhaust and a right foot to suit!
