hello all, having a few problems with the engine!

Its currently running really rich and also using alot of oil. ive cleaned the throttle body and checked and cleaned the maf sensor but this hasnt helped the fueling problem.

its a 2003 2.0 gdi engine with 73000 miles on it so not a huge amount. its got full service history and ive changed the oil and filter really regulary as I give it beans offroad when I use it.

also I have blanked the dpf off

The exhaust is virtually straight through now as well

any ideas or help greatfully recieved

cheers

GDI engines have a diesel particulate filter?

Just my opinion - if you have a piston engine that's using oil in significant quantities, and there are no leaks, then it's being burned and probably past the rings.  GDI engines, like diesel engines, are inherently dirty in that they produce soot, soot that ends up in the oil, soot that builds up around the oil rings and causes them to stick and wear.

I'm about to tear my engine (a 1.8 GDI) down for pretty much the same symptoms you're describing - I have decent compression, good power, but high fuel consumption and excessive oil consumption - it's my expectation that I will find the oil rings shot.

Sorry I don't know why I

Sorry I don't know why I wrote dpf. I meant egr.

Do you need to take the engine out of the pinin to do that work?

Yes - you do...

You can pull the cylinder head with the engine in the car, but to get the pistons out to see the condition of the rings will require removal of the oil pan, and the front differential and crossmember are below the pan so, you're going to be pulling the engine and putting it on a stand.

sorry i gave up with the

sorry i gave up with the pinin for a while as it was summer and bought a road toy instead and i am now looking to get the pinin road worthy again, ive just ordered a compression tester to check all of the pressures are correct, the plugs were changed about a year ago and have not done many miles in all honesty, it is using alot of oil, smokes alot and also uses alot of fuel.

the syncro has gone on 1st gear as well so i think i may just get a replacement engine and gear box and change both out
