I just had one of my best week end doing some 4x4. Here a small sample of a hill climb (as always steeper than it looks). I didn't think I was going to make it...no one did really.

We went to Yalwal, play around on the first afternoon, and climb up Monkey gum fire trail....video to come, that was lot of fun but a very hard climb too (a few new dent in the io )

Enjoy....

Happy io

Awesome!

Love the comments by the guys. Definitely changed their attitude towards th iO from the start to the end!

I've only been down monkey gum, can't wait to see your next video!

Size is not important; it's how you use it that matters!

yes, it was

Yes it was awesome....only going down :) , while the track keep changing, even going down is a challange. Very hard track, we made under 40 km in around 5/6 hours

The video, around the 6 min you can see that hill again, done (or trying)  by other. I have to say that the video doesn't give the full idea of what it look like in "real" life.

This trip was the best I have done by far in term of difficulty.

Happy io

bash plate

Hi Claude -

I'm mocking up some 6mm alu belly pans at present that will attach to the back lip of the front plate. they will have a 20deg folded edge and will key into the crossmember - two crush tubes drilled and bolted in. At the rear just behind the transfer box I'm putting a bar in that will screw onto an extended drivers rear seat bolt.
Still unsure on the rear folds - might make it a bit simpler than shown below

Once i'm happy with them I'll get them folded up. - should be fairly cheap

I am doing more and more of these trip, I just love them...more and more..., but the car is starting to have more and more dent. 2 choices, I don't care or I will have to put a front bar (to bad for the air bag) and sill protection as well as something like your design. Third choice...another car...but I like the io !

For the sill, I thought of covering them with alloy plate moulded to shape to fit on the original one, fit them to make them removable to reshape them if needed. That should be cheap and light and could look ok. Tube all around could be an option, but I like to stay as light as possible.

Too many project ! next it will be the low gear in the transfer case....

Happy io

sill protection

I'm cheating - buying some spray-on-rubberised ute tray material and just spraying on the sills, a good 10mm of rubber coating will be 1/4 the weight of the rock sliders and the io is light enough not to smash through it too baddly -

-edit- just getting  quote for a guy to spray it for me
