Brisbane IO

Hi Topher,

There are a few of us QLD IO boys hanging around! We will have to hit up a trip in the very near future! I believe (from memory don't quote me) there are a few around here like Bob_io, ClaudeIO, Worldomin8, NZIO and a few others. Definetly keen as we were talking last december and nothing happened :(

Bash plate

Ditto on the bash plate, if you end up finding one under $200 let me know please as mine is mutilated. it actually doesnt fit on anymore.. So yeah /:

If not ill fork out $250 and get a custom 4mm mild steel one made up.

I also would be keen for LC park too! Maybe we could organise a mini camping trip/4wding weekend?

$100 for 6mm Alu

Place I spoke to would do a minimum run of 3 for around $300 total out of 6mm Alu, all folded etc.

I'm keen if you are, probably about $100 each

Aluminium or steel? im

Aluminium or steel? im considering stainless if i can get some at the scrap yard..

check my build thread, im designing some at the moment too. happy to give out measurements for us to all double check and have input on the design. Im sure I can get our guys to make a few cheap too.

But $100 is a good price! are they going to design it also?

Stainless

I am a sheet metal worker..but I just cbf designing one and fitting one on my car will be a pain in the ass because I have two stripped bolts at the bacl/bottom of where the bashplate would be mounted..but it has to be done...plus at my new work we dont do any cnc work..we just weld, fold & fit.

Edit:

Mild stee/galvanised steel will rust. Aluminium wont and is light & easy to work with. Stainless is really hard and wont move much if you give it a good nudge so make sure all your mounting bolts are high tensile steel aswell with strong mounting points or you might pull the bashplate off instead of it taking impact.

6mm alu bash plate

O - to clarify this was approx $300 to supply the Alu sheet - laser cut out the "pajero-io" custom plate that Fab72 had made up and fold it - creating 3 plates minimum run.

http://www.pajerio.com/sites/default/files/u294/DSCF6878.JPG

I'll be pushing to get the offcuts too so I can weld some wings on the side to protect the rack etc.

right now I can afford one - happy to get a batch of 3 made but i'll need some cashish from two others if you are keen. Pickup from Brisbane/goldcoast (or delivered anywhere in between) or I am happy to help freight - would guesimate about $30 to sydney, $35ish to melb.

I'm going 6mm Alu as it is light, doesn't corrode and is fairly tough and fine to jack off BUT if I do hit something deathly at speed i.e. median strip bollard etc it will take the force and won't bend my front end up or flip me over.

Im in!

Count me in for sure! Will they do two of them for a reasonably price if we can't get someone else?

And another question..have you welded ally before? If not I can weld your "wings" on for nothing. I work in a fab shop.

P.S How do you want me to give you the $$ when it all gets sorted?

oh wow, I have been away for too long.. Looks cool. hard to tell, but does that unnecessarily reduce the Approach angle? looks like its steeper with the bend further forward than it needs to be? could just be the angle of the pic...

I have a bash plate which is cut and bend from the same cad drawing, I feel it has effect my approach a bit.  Not when coming up to a ledge, but when I come to an area where there are deep wheel ruts I feel my plate is rubbing on the middle mound before (the part where the plate is bolted to) would have hit.  Personally if I was designing one myself from scratch I would have had it angle up as soon as it come out form (the part where the plate is bolted to) as apposed to coming forward quite a bit before angling upwards.

Bash plate

I agree it is forward but no more so than the stock plate, i'd prefer a bit of space for potential crumple etc. my last 4WD was a tad too close and often the bash plate would rub on the sump.

same plate too

Glen.....Post 106 of my built thread for some pictures of the plate, different angle.

Singlecell....I found the same, but got used to it. The original plate have the 2 radius rod mount moulded, not this one, making the middle section a bit more...in front. Another thing is that the original one got bashed that much that after a while the middle section got pushed in by a fair amount, so once you get the "new design" it tend to touch before. Not perfect...but it does the job very well.

I will take a picture of mine tomorrow, she got a few "big hit" mainly by...oops, I didn't see that one....or....I got the plate, I'll use it...lol...

Happy io

Yeah OK, that does eat up a

Yeah OK, that does eat up a lot of valuable real estate, only bolted on at the front by the 2 weak front bumper bolts, i guess it rests on the radius rod mounts?
Looks like the later model iOs have a different front bumper design at the bottom there, I wander if the bash plate will fit both designs?

theres probably 150mm between the x member and the sump bob, theres a lot of room in there and i dont think much on the iO design will get hit,, I have actually been driving mine with NO bashplate for 1 yr, VERY VERY bad idea, but I have not damaged anything, and not from lack of trying :)

Id love a large radias, almost constant curve from the radius rod mounts to the x member. I might waste my time and make one that way..

Going to make up a cardboard template of a design or 2 today and stick in place on my iO

Bash plate

You got it, yes it does rest on the radius rod mount, and the 2 front bolt just stop it from falling ! they have no strength value....

This design does fit on different models, I fitted one on mine, one on a 99 1.8 l, and someone on his 1.6 l. The fixation hole might differ a bit...

Make a post in the trip section!! I beleive there  are maybe 3-4 other IO brisbane/QLD/northern NSW  owners on here :) Where are the tracks you are going to next weekend? If it all goes ahead smoothly I'll get my hilux tour guide friend to take us through woodford powerline tracks with big red and little red because those tracks are FUN!

Are you guys still getting

Are you guys still getting the bash plate? Is it $100 and pretty much ready to be put on? I have a completely stock '99 5 door IO. I guess the bash plate is the first thing I should start with if I want to do little bit of off road? I am keen on the bash plate then, but will need some help from you guys to fit it in...am a newbie when it comes to mechanical work.

Maybe we can do a small drive to meet up for BBQ and chat and plan on trips etc?

bash plate

we have not yet had them fabricated - fitting should not be an issue as it will fit both models.

minimum order is 3, I am keen but so far no-one else had available cash, by now the price is probably up around $125 due to ally price rises. if we get one more person keen and with available cash I'll get it re-quoted.
Bash plates come without holes drilled for bolting on - I'd be happy to drill and give you a hand to fit it.

I'm organising a trip Ormeau - Mt tamborine for in a month or two, will give you heaps of notice

Hi Bob, Mate count me in. If you can PM me with the details of where you want the cashola I'll make the transfer happen. Im keen as mustard mate as I have the Auto gearbox and the outlet hose for the coolant is right there at the front of the car. A stick hidden in the sand at Bribie would make short work of it I recon and then BAM. The IO would be out for the count.      Also let me know of the dates for your tamborine trip when your redy bud. Ide be keen to come for the drive. Take some photos and show these Canberra boys how Queenslanders 4x4.. ;-)

Bob, the fixation hole I have done on my io bash plate was a bit different on the other one I fitted the other io. Maybe because it was lifted, not sure at all. It was about 10 mm difference.

LOL I used to be a Canberra boy a year ago. GREAT driving trails out in the Brindies. I just wish I had the IO while I was down there.

Bob I would be happy to drill my own holes if they are going to be a little different. Saves you the hassle too I spose. :-) I love getting under the cars. Good stuffs.

Once we have the bash plates

Once we have the bash plates made, we can organize a mini DIY day at someone's place who has enough room around his driveway to work on cars and fit those plates in. :)

Bob if you are free, I might come and meet you on one of the weekends to show my car and get some advice. Also, I don't know if my IO is lifted. :| I did change to KYB shocks last year through Pedders....

Bash Plate

Bob I am more then happy to drop cash to you or bank transfer for a bash plate if you can confirm they will fit a lifted io? (What claude said has worried me if the 10mm different is right near the end of the plate and it doesn't cover the holes where it mounts too)

Have inboxed ya!

Keen for Mt Tamborine and also what specs are the plates>?

EDIT: Just saw we are drilling our own holes nvm! Have the right tools at home to drill but would much rather do it while Im picking it up from Mt Tamborine with you if thats alright

plate holes

If the design is the one that  Fab  done , there will be no problem for the plate to fit, no matter if the hole are not at the same exact place, it will fit nicely.

My advice, if Bob can make it at that price grab it with both hand...it is a very very good price. I can barely get the material for that here.

Madcat501, Brindies are good and I have Corin forest 20 min from my house, nice spot too :)

Updated bash plate price $203ea - is anyone still interested?

OK,

the old quote was from mid last year and prices have increased, plate price has increased a fair amount: price for plate supplied etc is now $203 incl GST minimum order 3 units. I checked with the laser cutters we use for work as a reality check and they quoted me $182 each just for the plate!

this is a big increase from the $103 incl gst however I am keen to get one - if anyone else is happy with the price (6mm alu 5005 grade) confirm and I'll get them produced. I'm happy to drill holes and help mount them once completed.

Thanks

It seems in the autos, the outlet oil hose from the gearbox is the lowest point in that area without the bash plate on. Its loopy and droopy (a little bit - not crazy), which bothers me when I'm plowing through stuff. Would only take a stick. Just a stick. :-)

Thanks again Bob.

Cheers

OK,

the old quote was from mid last year and prices have increased, plate price has increased a fair amount: price for plate supplied etc is now $203 incl GST minimum order 3 units.

Thanks

OK - revised price $160ish per plate

ok - found a cheaper option, I can pick up and supply the Alu sheet myself for $178+gst from ulrich alluminium, shove it in my trailer and drop it off at the laser cutters and have the guys laser and fold the plates for $98+gst each.

works out around $160+gst per plate.

let me know if you are keen, need two people to confirm for the first run as they do 3 plates per run

Cash on pick up ok

Cash on pick up is fine, will drop the plate off friday.
If there is enough interest a second run of 3 can easily be done.
