Hi. I am after a transfer case for a 2000 io 4 dr Manual (1.8l).

Can pick up in Melbourne or would need to arrange shipping.

(Can anyone tell me if any other Mitsubishis have the same transfer case?)

Thanks in advance!

Transfer case

You'll have to get a replacement from another iO.

Claudio might be able to help out as to whether it is the same on the 1.6, 1.8 and 2.0L iO's, I'm pretty sure they are all the same, but there have been unexpected differences between the models.

Have you tried ringing around the wreckers in melbourne?

All the best.

Thanks for the quick

Thanks for the quick reply!

Our local mechanic has tried to get a replacement - so far he has been supplied 2 transfer cases, neither fitted!

I have emailed a few of the wreckers and waiting for a response.

I will have to be patient.

Do you know what vehicles

Do you know what vehicles those transfer cases were from? Maybe regular pajeros...

Unfortunately for us iO owners, we need to repeat stuff like "QA" and "2.0 litre" "I-O" every time we try to get parts! It's frustrating, but I guess I kinda like having something a bit different.

My understanding, I am not

My understanding, I am not sure, is that the transfer box are the same for the 1.8 and 2 litre engine, in Australia (LHD may have another type) but transfer case from manual or automatic gear box have different internal input gear. Check post 91 of the link below.

http://www.pajerio.com/forum/change-lowrange-gearing-1548-1925-delica-parts?page=1

This is the manual for the transfer case http://www.pajerio.com/forum/manual-transmission-clutch-workshop-manuals  the correct link is the bottom one of the first post, 22D, then go to section 9.

I have bought and dismantled one transfer case to use some parts (mainly the cover and one fork) to later on modifying mine. It is from an auto gear box, so the input gear won't match but if you know what part you need, (using the manual diagram) I might be able to help.

Can you give us some picture of the one you bought and didn't fit ? Do you know what is wrong with your transfer case ?

Another option might be from Anisaac http://www.pajerio.com/forum/parts-more-parts

Another option ...this person had one a few month back. His name is Angelo and his contact is 0418417172. It is a wrecker in Sydney (forgot the name) ...If I remember it was around $400 + freight, the car had the front damaged in an accident.

.

I hope that you will find something suitable to help you out...

Happy io

Thank you Claude. Our local

Thank you Claude. Our local mechanic is working on the iO. He has tried to get a replacement transfer case using the Parts Supply hotline (or similar?). 2 different suppliers shipped him a transfer case that was supposed to fit and they didn't. They have been returned.

He is a great mechanic but his English is not so good, so this may have caused a problem. He is happy for me to find one for him to fit.

I sent Anisaac a PM but so far no reply.

Just spoke to Angelo and he still has the transfer case so we are arranging to purchase. Thanks for your help!

(I may get the old case as there may be parts useful for someone else.)

transfer case

Great...

Not being sure what is wrong with your  transfer case, but I would be very happy to have it, just for training myself and maybe get  the input gear from yours.

Happy to pay for the freight...

Happy io

 At last, another Melbourne

At last, another Melbourne iO!

There is an iO at the ringwood Jollys you pull it wrecker. its a 1.6 but the tranny and transfer case is the same. I think.

they will not sell the transfer case on its own, so $225 for the box with case i think it was (I wanted to case only too. but not that desperatly, I just wanted to experiment and weld up the case)

Whats wrong with yours? Want to sell me yours to experiment with when you get a replacement ?

Edit: oops, just read the entire thread, sorry claud, wasnt trying to seal the old T/F case, its all yours :)

transfer case

Lol...do you want another blue nail ?...lol...

I really would like the input gear. The one I have is from an auto gear box and from Pinin...the input gear is different.  If Ladyio want to give the old one away, take it and send me the input gear.... You get the case...I get the input gear...

If you agree and good with the welding I might even send you mine for you to weld/modified. That might save me a few $$$. I don't have the skill or equipment to do it myself and getting it done is not cheap...

Happy io.

P.S. try red hot heated paper clip for the nail...easier and a bit more friendly...than the dremel...

Just got iO back from

Just got iO back from mechanic this evening. A bit concerned because all 4 green lights for the SuperSelect system are on - no matter what transfer lever position is selected! So back to the mechanics tomorrow!

The mechanic has the old case and I was happy to pass on to Claude? Apparently a gear is broken, not sure which one?

If it is better to give to Glen for inspection/disassembly then happy to do that?

Glen, you could pick it up from Brunswick, or we may be able to deliver? My husband should collect it from the mechanic tomorrow.

This is my second iO. The first one had done 280,000km's when it hit a kangaroo.

It was written off by the insurance co. and they have it up for auction next week at Mannheim's if anyone wants some parts. The gearbox/transfer case in that one should be alright. Engine is probably a little tired (never done anything to it except change oil and belts). Body is not so good.

I bought the car I have now in Sydney - knowing it had a drivetrain problem - and looking forward to getting behind the wheel of an iO again!

Ask the mechanic about

Ask the mechanic about whether the transfer case he installed came with all switches or if he needed to swap the ones off your existing case. If there are still spare switches then it could be an easy fix to swap them.
There are several switches on the transfer case which tell you whether you are in 4wd or not, so maybe remove all of them and get the mechanic to bench-test them before diagnosing which of yours is not working.

Good to hear you enjoyed the iO that much! I think if mine were written off, the only thing I'd look for is a 5 door version for a bit more room ;)

Transfer case / lights

HAHAHA no more blue nails! I did use a red hot nail to finish the hole, I was just a little worried about burning myself, didnt realize there was HEAPS of blood just waiting to cool the needle..

but yeah that would be great! your welcome to have all the input gears i have! dont need em as i have the input from the 1.944 ratios.
Happy to weld up anything you want too.

Thanks LadyiO! im more than happy to pick it up! ill send Claud all the bits he wants to he doesnt bust up my hands :)

You obveously like your iOs ? Get off road with it much? , I also bought mine from Sydney, Woolongong actualy. Ill have to keep an eye out for the smashed one at Mannheims, be interesting to see what it goes for..

As Natster said your 4x4 lights problem should be an easy fix. Assuming they were not all on when you bought the car? just after the transfer case swap?

Thanks for offering the old T/C case to us too!

iO is on the road!      Major

iO is on the road!

Major mechanical is okay but the 2 green lights for the front wheels are constantly on. (When we got the iO the lights were on but the front driveshafts were actually stuck in the engaged position.)

Our mechanic went over the complete car. He felt that it had been driven in 4WD and centre diff locked for quite a while. Hence transfer case failure. (A number of bolts in the drivetrain were loose - probably from excessive stress/vibration.) After his work we have had the iO on a hoist and have checked engagement/disengagement of 4WD at transfer case and the front driveshafts - everything is working as it should.

So at this point Lady iO is on the road but not selecting 4WD unless absolutely necessary. I had planned to check switch operation using the link Claude provided (Thanks!) when I get the chance.

(LadyiO's husband is writing this!)

Glen, we got your PM. I tried to call your mobile and left a voicemail but maybe I called the wrong number?

You are welcome to pick the transfer case up from either Brunswick or Bullengarook. (It is in Brunswick at the moment.) We are happy to drop it off to you in central Melbourne to Bullengarook area.

One of us will try and send you a PM with contact details. I will do this now if I can work out how - or LadyiO will do it this evening!

You can drive indefinitely with the front wheel lights on

It thinks it's in 4H and it may be, so just make sure the center lock light is off - the long term results are increased wear and tear on the front differential assembly, which I don't see as being an issue, and slightly elevated fuel consumption, which could be an issue - think of it this way - you're driving it as an AWD vehicle, like a Rav4.

Assuming that it is actually in 2H (because you say engagement/disengagement has been checked) possible causes range from a defective switch on the transfer case, a short circuit on the wiring to the same switch - which is a distinct possibility if the transmission & transfer case have been removed & replaced - a defective dash display controller, or, and I think this last unlikely, an internal problem in the transfer case.
