What Keeps me busy

What keeps me busy..usually I work 54hr weeks, play sport 4 times a week and train two times a week. Then the girlfriend..but she usually works weekends which buys me some time usually :D

been working 8 hr days with no saturday lately though..and im only just getting back into the season for my sport so a few weeks ago it was just 3 games a week no training :)

I really need to tend to my rear bar :c...or put my bumper back on lol. The longer I keep it off the more pressure there is to finish it though..hmm

what keeps me too busy

13 month old daughter
still building myself a gararge
1969 Ht Holden restoration project
home renovations.

generally if I can slip a mod into my lunch hour I'll get ti done at work - almost never do anything on the io at home.

otherwise I'm out bushwalking, abseiling, canyoning and enjoying living close to the springbrook and border ranges areas :)

nice

Nice, I never played with that type of ...toy.... but it does look to have some serious design and a lot of work. I am only guessing that you have built it from scratch.

After all this work, I can only imagine the feeling to see it in the air for the first time....does it have a name ...heli io !!

Get back to the transfer case now ..lol...sorry, couldn't resist !!!!

Happy io

Looks very cool!

Nice work, and I'd love to hear the story behind this invention and how you managed to sell the design!

What keeps me busy:
I'm a high school design and technology teacher, so I have a lot of little projects on the go, many of which are also top secret! In my holidays I've been travelling overseas a bit over the past couple of years, and in between all that I like to ride my mountain bike, dirt bike, stand up paddle board, go fishing from my canoe, etc etc.

I'm hoping to get out to newnes in a couple of weeks to try out my new suspension setup on some harder trails.

Size is not important; it's how you use it that matters!

Newnes plateau I think

Newnes State forest, near Lithgow NSW. Glow Worm Tunnels, etc.

I'll be following a mate, so I don't know the details! :P

awesome!

there are some great tracks around that area,

if you guys get bored then i'd reccomend on the way home taking the blakfellows hands track from the bungelbouri (sp?) picnic grounds out west across the plateau - it drops down through some cliffs and steps to come out on the newnes valley road just before the newnes valley road drops down the escarpment to the valley floor.

driving back from the bottom of this track to the main highway you'll come out onto the great western highway at the castlereagh junction.
as you turn left on the slip road, just where the slip road joins the GWHwy there is a gravel track that doubles back to the left for powerline and property access. take this down about 100m to where the track turns hard right at some horse sheds and here you can open a gate and go hard left instead back along an old railway easement - within 50m you can drive through an old abandoned train tunnel and follow the easement along a few kilometers - lots of bog holes and fun!

Yes i designed it from the ground up. Not entirely happy with anything else on the market I decided to design my own helicopter with all the criteria I think should be in one. And yes im BUSTING to get a prototype to fly! be great to see them been flown all over the world once released too!

Named it after my son Chase, not sure its the best name for a heli, but what the hell...

lol, yes its well past time for the TC!

Changes seem to take forever to trickle down with technology, I first flew helicopters about 15 years ago, since then they have gone electric ad flybarless (electronic stabilization) not much else has changed. The fact we need to pull the canopy off every time we change the battery between flights is ridiculous . Designs are very market driven. I had a list of design criteria in order of priority that was my preference for my flying style and needs. and went at it regardless of anything else. I was pretty happy with the result, so set about getting quotes and looking for an OEM, at first i was just going to make them for me and mates, but as well as getting quotes from CNC shops in china I also asked an RC heli company if they are happy to do OEM work (there are a few that do) They liked it so much they started negotiating to have it under their brand instead... They gave me a small list of "market driven" changes they wanted.. that was about the hardest part of the design, not compromising the design criteria while making it aesthetically modern / future stylings.
They are setup and able to move many more units than I ever could alone, total profits will work out about the same for me as if i went at it along. But this way i have NO marketing headaches. Leaves me lots of free time. Free to do nothing but design and play with helicopters. perfect for my plans to spend 6 months a year in Seychelles in my wifes homeland.

What are these Top secret projects of yours? CMON, i told you mine hahaha, what about the non top secret ones?

I also have a CG Galant coupe IP race car and a 1971 (GB Galant coupe ) waiting for its restoration. the GB is still in NZ, I cant find ANY in australia, can find the 4 doors, just no 2 doors. I plan to do an evo 8 engine transplant into that one. One of the coolest looking classic little 4 bangers out there i recon!

That is Beautiful

Amazing looking car, reminds me of the old Celicas.

I am also madly inlove with 99% of everything that has a motor.

Driving down the highway I can point out the make and model of every car in reasonable sight without any hassles.

:)

Would love to see a build thread of your coupe ;D

nice

Car lover too, more restoring than modifying. I never saw one of these, I had a 1975 KE30 corolla 2 doors sedan that look "similar" to this one. Big engine in those will have it flying...they are very light car. ....3 years, not pick up yet !!! lol !!! May be you try to do too much...

What stopping me from enjoying my Io....not much really :)

Happy io

Other cars would be a good thread.

Well at the moment I've been making a guitar body out of Perspex, and doing some laser cut marquetry, in between some little 3D printing project ideas for school. It's nice to be at a really well set up school workshop, though the laser cutter is mine.

I made this for my friend's surfboard company from his offcuts of hoop pine and tasmanian blackwood veneers which he uses on his boards, laser cut.

Me with my solid timber (Paulownia) surfboard I made a few years back.

My other ideas are still top secret!

Speaking of which, did you patent or register your helicopter design before shopping around the manufacturers? That is the stage which scares me about getting on with a few of my ideas...

Too many things!

Hmmm... sadly its a long list these days:

11 month old daughter

Just finished a new house and moved in 2 weeks ago - wife seems to think wardrobes and door handles are more important than anything I might find to do in the garage. Then there's paving outdoor areas, digging out 10m3 of storm water soak pits, staining the cedar weatherboards....

Lawns and weed spraying ( we're on a few acres), new chook huse to build, etc etc. It never ends.

And the car project I brought back from the UK in 2005 and haven't touched since even before I got the io - a TVR Cerbera about 80% rebuilt as a Targa rally car. I don't let myself think about when I'm going to get to that project again or I'd have to think about selling it. Which I won't.

Wifes priorities

haha, I know the feeling, my wife has her priorities wrong too!

You guys are lucky been able to import from the UK, My mate managed to bring in a TVR  from the UK as a personal import not to long ago.
The loop hole seems to be to import to NZ then import to Australia at the moment.

What part of NZ are you from? ill have to come visit when / if i head over to sort out my car.
Its in Manaia Taranaki .

Where in NZ

I'm in a rural area about an hour north of Wellington - just a couple of kms detour if your heading from Wellington to the 'naki. Definitely drop in if you're passing.

Nice work, Love the solid

Nice work, Love the solid timber!  I made a surfboard about 16 years ago.. Id love to get back into it oneday...

I did not patent any part of this helicopter, I have designs for parts on the larger version of the same helicopter that i am considering putting a patent on, so will not show anyone that until / if i do. But mostly i dont want to bother with patents, Id rather see innovation and advancement than people wasting the worlds time with patents. As long as im the first I don't mine if people copy my ideas, I find it flattering. laugh

They also mean very little in Asia,

Whoa!

That is one fancy looking hedge trimmer!

Do you think these things could be hooked up to G-code? You could make some crazy CNC crop circles!
