Too bad you're looking for a

Too bad you're looking for a 1.8l 5 door, as my '99 IO is currently for sale.

If you are in SEQ I know of a local wrecker who has a 1.8l 5 door in their yard with engine still available. They quoted me $500 for a 1.6l engine they had, so perhaps they'd let the 1.8 go for a similar price. PM me if you want the detals.

Hello there Hoggle.   Sorry I

Hello there Hoggle.

Sorry I took so long to reply , been a bit busy , went O/Seas and now in throes of setting up excavation business.

$500 doesn't sound too bad for a motor , so if you would like to send me contact details , by all means go ahead.

My mission is to guts a 4g93t and put the internals into standard 4g93 with a small turbo.

It's a mission but it's do-able. Need the extra grunt to tow my new tinny setup.

Thanks again. Kel.

I don't know where you are

I don't know where you are located, but if near SEQ, check out A1 Global Auto Parts at 84 King Ave, Willawong.

They have a 1.6l 2 door in silver and white, and a 1.8l 4 door in silver and blue.

Plenty of good parts left on each, and both still had engines, altough the gearbox and transfer case is gone from the 1.6.

turbo or not to turbo.

I was considering a turbo - but for my year model to be compliant going from MAF to MAP was a pain so I'm going this route: 4g93DOHC on a 4g94 - about the same cost if you include cams and a tune. DOHC only gives about 17% kw gains at most, but lets it rev much faster and increases torque 500rpm->2500rpm.

If you can pick up an old galant vr4 4g93T or evo 1 etc complete and ECU (and get it happy in the io body) that's also an option but the reverse flow of the head is a pain as is the crank and cam sensors being different. Lots of guys in the Oz-Lancer scene fit evo 8 turbos and manifolds (direct fit) , large magna 501 MAF's and load a custom tune for 4g94 + stock cam + magna MAF with success.

kms

Hi Claude,

Around 315,000 at present - it's been thrashed hard since i bought it at 115,000kms.

I'm definitly missing a few torques and i get more carbon build up from blow-by but compression is still within spec and even, no noises or rattles and once carbon-cleaned still goes fine.

I have cooked my gearbox though - 6000rpm in super low range in 5th for half an hour full throttle in soft sand turned the oil black and i recon i may have done some heat damage internally. and after a few years of constant full-noise 1st gear launches, flat change (crunch) to second full noise for green light left lane peak hour commuting my first gear will once a month pop out when I take off.

The pinion spacer compressed a few years ago from locker work so I have slightly more diff noise and a bit of a sing at certain rpm, but oil is healthy and teeth look ok - will get it reste when i rebuild the rear end.

otherwise runs great.

Hi Bob , that's a nice

Hi Bob , that's a nice looking setup. could you pull  that off with the  standard 4g93 ya reckon .  Plus , what's the bonnet clearance like ??

My reason for keeping the standard motor and swapping internals was to make life easier in the insurance / rego scene . Plus the cops around Ballina are F^#$@"N severe . there is an old thread that gave a rough explanation as to how to go about it , plus I know a guy who builds Mitsi motors down here if I get stuck. and of course you lot . Tonnes of info :)

chekya later ,

Desert Nomad.

motor build up

i'm keeping my current block - i won't even need to notify rego or insurance as capacity is kept and given that the head is mitsi it will be stock parts so stock enough for cops.

if you havn't put extractors on it, a 2.25" exhaust and a good cat then do that first - biggest improvement straight up and you can get a good quiet high-flow muffler so cops won't buzz you. you might be happy for a while with the modest power gains from the exhaust!

no - not a standard 4g93

No - the dohc breath the wrong way - exhaust is on the wrong side - only the evo's are reversed and some very late model proton satria's and overseas lancers are flowing the same way our io's do.

the head shown is a 4g93E from the phillipines, I'd be buying it fully reco-ed with stage 2 cams dialed in. the cost savings from OS labour and parts is equivalent to me refurbing the sohc head here in australia so its a win on that front alone.

i looked at reversing a 4g93T head i.e. machining the rear plug for the cam seal and mounting it back to front but would be interesting, almost easier to run exhaust down drivers side....
