Engine change advice

Hi All

I have two Pinin 2.0L GDI's, one is a 2004 in good nick, apart from the fact that it's blown a piston. The other is the same model (2003) in poor nick but with a very good engine. Obviously I would like to swap the good engine into the better shell, is it a simple job, bearing in mind the ECU and the transponder in the key. Can you simply swap the unit over and do a reset on the ECU or would you have to keep the original ignition pack and injector system. Any help or advice would be most appreciated....

Welcome to the forum...

I have done some engine swap but never worked on the GDI engine, if it is the same engine (not 2 litre and 1.8 litre) it should be a straight swap, no need to swap ECU, injection or other....

As Claude has suggested...

if the two engines are the same it should be a straight forward bolt-in swap - no need to fiddle with the electronics.  If there are differences between the engines, which there sometimes are, consider swapping the mechanical assemblies, and transferring the ancilliaries (manifolds, sensors, etc.) from the original engine to the replacement.

When you disconnect the battery, the ECU will reset, you'll need to do a relearn.
