I assume so, but thought id double check.

there is a 2 door iO at my local wrecker, im considering getting the gearbox/transfer case setup and installing a marks low range in it.

the Box/transfer setup is $225, might be worth is as a spare?

.

I am also keen to know this since I found out the shitty way that a 1.8L and 2.0L rear diff is larger then the diff of my 1.6L.

Little bit off subject, but when you fir your front locker I wouldnt mind some photos/measurements of your front stock diff internals as I feel it might be the same size as my rear....

1.6 diff

Crap, can you put a 4door diff into the 2 door? As in the entire diff and housing..

No worries, ill grab a heap of pics, Im just trying to track down a lower ratio crown and pinion to install at the same time as my lockers. will do it as soon as I get them!

Its just the 1.6L I believe, as the ARB locker fits in both a 2door and 4door, but there is no way it would fit in mine.  The manual states both the lsd and the open diff have the same about of splines on the rear axles, but my open diff had about three less.

You can see a difference from the outside, the housing itself is smaller the cone shaped part you remove which has the diff attached to it is a bit longer on the larger diff.

Bummer. So fingers Crossed

Bummer. So fingers Crossed you may be able to stick a front Kaiser auto locker in the rear instead? What's a 2ltr diff worth from the wreckers?

Well I am hoping it will, but I am not willing to order one just on a guess though.  It also makes me worry that maybe my front is different, If I ever get the chance I wouldnt mind looking under another IO and mine at the same time to find out.

I got mine for $125.

If you have any measurements

If you have any measurements I can at least see if the crown wheel bolt pattern / center holl is the same for you. can rule it out if thats not the same.

Theres a 1.8 diff on ebay at the moment. if your happy to drive to Nerang to pick it up. I have asked him what the ratio is, I want it if its a 5.1, I rang a few wreckers and non of the 1.8 autos they had were a 5.1 as the manual suggests, so not sure....

Can you change the ratio of the rear diff and not the front? I thought they would have had to match?  I have no idea its just an assumption I have made.

EDIT: Who did you contact to purchase the lockers?  Maybe I could just order one front, and if it doesnt fit the rear just fit it to the front. And if it fits the rear, order a second one.

Ideally they should match.

Any 4WD guru you discuss this with will tell you they MUST match, if not you will get drive train wind up, in reality, some desert racers do run different final drive ratios front & back, I forget which one they run lower, but it's done to change the handling balance

On a hard surface if the two ratios do not match you WILL get drive train wind up, and end up breaking something, usually the transfer case, but this holds true even when they are matched.  On a slippery surface, there is enough slip that drive train wind up does not occur.

Consider this an "if you need to ask you shouldn't do it" type modification - I've heard of it being done, I understand the why, but not the how, I'm not a desert racer, I don't have a desert racer's budget to pay for broken parts, so I'll play it safe and match the front & back.

You can try mine if you pay for the post. will be a few weeks before I get around to installing it, if it fits ill just order another one, if not send it back? better than wasting your $ on something that might not fit either your front or back haha, however unlikely, unless you want one front and back anyway?.

We are actually setting up to become a dealer for kaiser lockers right now, we have been working with them to try and get some done to our design for the Holdens, My dad has a 600kw supercharged Calais, stock diff isnt up to the challenge! performance shop are keen already. we sent them a destroyed diff to double check the spline measurements and the stupid Brazilian postal service tried to charge them 80% tax on there decided value of a new diff! stupid Brazilian government, just shot them self in the foot, the idea was to help them make something to export!. so thats on its way back to us now. We have to post via courier UPS or something, apparently that will work. anyway, thats my off topic rant for the day :), point is we will sell the 4x4 stuff while were at it. including iO lockers at good rates to site donators such as yourself :)

It would be longer then a few weeks before I had the chance to try myself, but if you could take some measurements of your locker that would be great.  Ill try pull an axle out sometimes soonish and just double check the diameter and spline count.

Having a local supplier would be awesome.

Is the spline the same as the 1.8? you may beable to run the larger clutch, swap the flywheel IF needed.
