1.6 vs 1.8 gearbox compatibility
Its been a while since i posted as my new job is leaving me without much play time. I still have that noise in my gearbox which is driving me insane. I need toknow if the 1.8 gearbox is a perfect fit onto the 1.6? i might get my hands on one but obviously needs to know that it works? what about the internal gears, does any body know if the are inter changeable? they are asking me a truck full of money just to open it up sp SEE what is wrong and then only they might fix it. Parts for it as you all know will only be availble from the agents. The other question is will the L200 4x4 box fit?
Hope i get some help
Engine swaps are not as easy as they used to be...
It's not like the old days of carbed engines, the electronics involved in modern cars means you almost need the whole donor vehicle (or a front cut) to ensure a working swap - engine, ECU, loom, etc.
Fielies - check the ID plate and give me the transmission type V5M21-A-? or something like that and I'll see if I can find what other vehicles were fitted with it - off the top of my head the L200s had a different transmission though.
2.4 paj
the io, the 2.4 paj diesel and some delica's have similar gearboxes. Internals are slightly different and the front case is also slightly different.
There are heaps of online mitsubishi parts index lookups, have a dig and compare part no's
Part no MR498904 is listed as common between non gdi 1.6 and 1.8 io's but the 2l box is different and a second optional gearbox is listed for the 1.6.
This part is the entire gearbox sub assy, not just the case but does not include the rear housing
Why not use the engine too
Maybe it would be easier to get the 1.8 engine and box and put both into your swb?
Size is not important; it's how you use it that matters!
