Hi All,

My iO has just started this problem recently. When going from 2H to 4H, the front green lights flashes, but the 4WD doesnt seem to engage. I have tried this stationary in P or N and also while driving. Going 4HLc and 4 LLc doesn't seem to engage the Front wheels either.

Any ideas where i could start to look at when trouble shooting?

Cheers

Flashing front wheel lights

is an indication of a problem with the front differential freewheel mechanism - possible causes range from a disconnected vacuum hose through broken wiring to defective solenoids and/or switches.

What's your technical/troubleshooting background like?  Do you have a volt meter?

The switching solenoids are mounted on the inner right panel under the bonnet - you can reach the electrical connectors from above - set your meter for DCV and backprobe the connectors - you're looking to see the voltage change (0~12) when you shift between 2H & 4H - if it doesn't it's an electrical problem, if it does it's vacuum or mechanical

Thanks for the quick

Thanks for the quick response.

I used the voltmeter to check the electrical connectors. It shows 12V (or 14 with engine running) in both 2H and 4H. I did try that as well on another pajero iO where the 4H does seem to work, that car also showed 12V in both 2H and 4H.

Maybe i have the checked the wrong connectors, it is quite cramped around that area? Confirm they are slighly above and forward of the 2 solenoids, underneath a thick loom of wires.

Directly on the solenoids.

The connectors are directly on the solenoids - and if the system is working you WILL see a change when shifting between 2H & 4H
