Base timing

Found this site last week and I love it, finally an iO/Pinin site for us smiley Will be going through the topics and trying to contribute asap.

Anyways, I'm needing to check my base timing but our iO's don't seem have the usual connector to jumper in the engine bay for setting the base timing and idle. The service manual only ever refers to the MTU for everything and its really annoying.

There is a reference to a connector within the fuse/relay box in the engine bay where you can get an output for your tachometer, so I'm assuming it could be one of them (see 54A-24). But I'm not game enough to ground pins on this 'check' connector just to see!

Anyone have any idea?

Thanks for the welcome. I

Thanks for the welcome. I live on the Gold Coast. Have owned our little 1.8 5 door QA for about 6 years now and it has never let us down. Great little 4wd.

I will definitely post the info here when I find out. I think its a very important thing for us all to know.

Wow - didn't realise there were other forum members in my area, I live up on Mt Tamborine. I'm interested to find out how to do this as i've always used the "disconnect the battery for a week" method.

Is the timing issue somewhat

Is the timing issue somewhat be related to the engine management unit? Kinda curious on how these things run electronically.

Are you sure it's adjustable?

I don't know what engine you have - there are at least five (possibly six) different engines used in the Pajero iO - I have a 1.8 litre DOHC GDI 4G93 - and the base ignition timing is not adjustable.

I think you may be right. I

I think you may be right. I had a look at the service manual HF11.pdf page 11A-9 and it out outlines the procedure with the MUT but does speciify how to adjust the timing if its out. I just assumed one would move the CAS but never checked.
