clutch wont disengage
hey guys just wondering if any one could shed some light on a problem im having, today the clutch stopped working on my mums 2002 pinin, it will not disengage. when started in gear it drives fine, no slipping etc, and when i looked under neath the slave cylinder apears to be moving fully when clutch is pressed and depressed. , any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.
clutch
I would try to bleed the clutch slave cylinder first. Sometime it can looks to fully move but doesn't !! it could be short by a couple of mm only !! Does it engage in reverse? If the slave cylinder is good....as advised, the box will have to come out....
50000 miles...she is like new!!
Happy io/pinin
used rarely you say?
Are you sure its not just a stuck clutch? Common problem if a vehicle has been left for a while...

Maybe time to drop the transmission
If you're sure the slave cylinder is moving it's full travel, then you'll need to drop the transmission to find/repair the problem - something is not transferring the movement from the clutch slave to the clutch (pressure) plate. What should happen is when the clutch slave moves, the movement is transferred by the clutch fork (or lever) to the pressure plate fingers, via the release (or throw out) bearing - the fingers are depressed causing the pressure plate to move away from the flywheel, releasing the clutch disk and allowing it to disengage.
Once the hydraulics are intact, the problem will be on the inside of the bellhousing - now - it really doesn't make much of a difference what has failed in there, because best practice dictates that you change the entire kit & kaboodle once you go in there - it's not that you can't change one part at a time, but given the labour involved, it's not worth taking that approach - a clutch kit should have the clutch disk, pressure plate & release bearing, there's also a pilot shaft bearing or bushing in the center of the flywheel that should be changed, and whilst you're in there the engine rear main seal. On some vehicles the clutch fork (or lever) is known to wear, I can't comment on the iO - mine is an automatic - so make sure you inspect yours, and replace if worn.
