So I made this topic because I really need honest hopinions, so I have my pajero io since January, I already wasted more then 1000€ on it since January.

Thew things I changed:

- Differential;

- Manual transmissian fluid;

- Brake Discs;

- Brake Pads;

- Brake Liquid;

- Oil (changed 2 times);

- 4 new tyres (Good Year EfficientGrip);

- Maybe other things I don't remember...

I noticed 4 months ago my oil was burning to fast, I didn't know what oil it was using, but I know that every month I was adding half a liter to it.

2 months ago i dicided to do an oil change, I went to a local "known to be a good oil changer garage" in my country, and they did the oil and filter change to a 5w40, 1 week ago i checked my oil and it was almost on the minimum in the rod.

I dicided immediately go to another garage and they said -that those "mechanics" in these "known to be a good oil changer palces" don't know anything about the engines and they just use 5w40 in almost all this type of engines like toyota rav4 and many others-, and after a while they start burning the oil.

I asked them what should I do, they told to try and change the oil to a 10w40, and they would do some tests. Thew hours later I came to the garage and they told me that they found out that the engine was burning oil by itself and there was a ignition coil problem,  when my car is hot, and it's in N, the engine starts shaking and if I start using the headlights, window buttons, or any other electronic system, the car shakes even more, if I wen't from 500rpm to 1000rpm it establishes, they couldn't see what coil was doing it because they turned it off and wen't to work on it after some hours, when they came back the car wasn't doing any shaking, but they said that will hapen if it gets hot.

Actually some times, I felt the shaking but I didn't really cared about it, because if I went to an highway it get back to normal after 1 minute.

So I asked for their opinion and they said: "To be honest, the parts for this car are really expensive, so if you like the car keep it, but if it was mine i would be selling it.".

That's why I'm here on the forum asking for your honest opinion, I don't have a lot of money to waste, so what should I do?

For now I have done almost 80km with the car and the oil its keeping itself without burning. I hope it stops burning oil, I'm thinking maybe if it happens again, I'll sell it and buy a 4 door car like a bmw e46.

You asked for an honest opinion...

Find yourself an honest reliable mechanic - or no matter what vehicle you own, you're going to have problems.

From what you have recounted to us, neither of the two places you have been to are doing what needs to be done.

If a vehicle is using oil there is a reason why, and they should be finding what that reason is so that you can make an intelligent decision on how to move forward - by the way, telling us you're adding half a liter every month doesn't give us much to work with, how many miles did you drive in that month?  I've been known to do in excess of 1500 km/week, and with that sort of driving, half a liter in a month is acceptable.

If the engine is using oil, it has to be either leaking it or burning it, and it will continue to do it regardless of what oil you put in it - using a thicker oil will slow the rate of consumption, but will not fix it.

If it's leaking oil, where is the leak - leaking seals or gaskets can all be fixed, the worst two places are the rear main seal or the oil pump O ring, it's a fair bitof disassembly just to reach them.

If it's burning oil, is it past the rings or past the valve seals - worn rings will mean an engine rebuild - leaking valve seals are fixable, a good mechanic may be able to do them without removng the head.

Notice that the last four paragraphs all start with "if"?  These are the questions that your mechanic needs to find the answers to, because these are what will determine the extent of the repairs necessary, and whether it makes sense to keep the car or not.

Now - I have one question for you - does your car have a GDI engine?  If it does, get rid of it.

It's not that it is not a good car - I have a GDI engined Pajero iO - I'm not dependent on mechanics to do what is needed to keep the car running - there is one part on the engine, if it fails, a replacement will cost you more than the car is worth - the high pressure fuel pump.

Just a quick update

Guys, i think the problem got fixed, i made 600km since the oil change.

The oil is on the place it should be and its clean, i think the oil they used its a good one also its 10w40 syntectic, so maybe the oil i had before was a shitty one and it was 5w40.

So thats good news!! im keeping my io :D
