Two minutes sounds like a long time

It's normal for most cars to idle at a slightly higher rpm on a cold start, 1500 rpm sounds about right, but 2 minutes sounds a little on the long side - ambient temperatures may have some effect on this, in colder weather it'll take the engine longer to warm up and I would expect it to take longer to drop to a warm idle, 750 sounds about right for warm idle.

idle

Canberra, 5° this morning, it took more than 5 min for the engine to idle, I haven't touch the accelerator in the process. Not being 100 % sure but I don't think that it is a problem.

5° brrrrrrr is that °C or °F?

Never gets below about 70°F here and the fast idle on my car takes perhaps 15 seconds to drop - I'm pretty certain the temp is what's causing it to stay at a fast idle longer.

°C it is, agree with the temperature being the most important factor...it is the "cold start" doing that higher rev.  I normally don't wait more than a minute to drive. I took the time this morning to check how long it does last at higher rev.

Idle at start on cold

My Grandad was the first owner of my Pajero IO and I was the second, and from new we both agree it idles higher (1200-1500rpm) on cold mornings and goes away within a minute or two when its just sitting there or like 30 seconds if you drive (without reving a cold engine!)

Definetly notice this only happens on early mornings/winterly weather. Has never had to do it for any more then a minute or two tho. maybe for like 5 seconds when its warm in Summer. So if its only for a few minutes in the cold this can be considered normal behaivour from an IO :)

Hope this helps!
