Little Silver Bullet
Hello all. I just joined the forum as I've recently bought my first ever Pajero io. It's a 2002 5 dr GDI. I've had it for about a month now and I love this little thing. I haven't been able to do many mods yet, really only changed the head unit to an Alpine touch screen and relocated the AC/Heater controls, but I have a lot of plans so far. I keep getting more and more ideas from reading others posts here.
Anyways, thanks for having me. I look forward to continuing to learn and read up on these awesome vehicles.
Looks like the 2.0
That looks like it has the 2.0 engine, I had the 1.8 GDI, I sold it about two years back - I have good memories of that car, had a lot of fun with it, I got it for next to nothing, but what I didn't pay to purchase I paid to make it run properly,
Yes, mine is the 2.0L engine.
Yes, mine is the 2.0L engine. So far I've loved it. I'm trying to find somewhere I can get a lift and some bigger tires. Also, looking to get a roof rack or roof basket. Have'nt found a shop locally yet.
I hope to have alot of good memories with this one also.
Where are you located...
Small lifts (50mm) are fairly easy and not too expensive - but you need to start by examining the front struts - take a look in the suspension section of the forum, and be sure to go through the "strut-data thread", it will help you identify which strut you have fitted, I think the 2.0 came with the high pan strut, but I can't guarantee it. The main difference between high & low pan struts is that the pan can limit the size tire you can run, and the real reason to lift is to be able to create space for a larger tire.
I'm located in Tbilisi,
I'm located in Tbilisi, Georgia. Right south of Russia.
I've looked at that thread. Many times already. I have the high pan strut. I've measured already. I do want to get bigger tires, along with a better bash plate so I can start doing some Off roading here.
Thank you for your help! I appreciate it!
Try ebay.com.au
There's also a spring-data thread with details of the springs available and there are usually kits with springs & shocks/struts on ebay.com.au - unfortunately no one seems to make an extended travel strut/shock specifically for the iO so you have to get creative, it's not too difficult to make strut extenders using the rods from an old strut and shock relocators to go on the bottom end of the rear shocks.
Good luck
Making strut extenders is easier than you think.
Making strut extenders is easier than you think - BUT - it requires a workshop with a lathe - I should have a set that I had made and never used, I'll try to locate them and get you a picture later today.
Here is a pair of strut extenders that were made from the chrome rods of a pair of old struts - basically what I did is cut about 120mm off of the old strut rod and take it to the machine shop - the machinist mounted the cut off in a lathe, measured 50mm from the shoulder of the rod and cut it off there and then drilled & tapped the hole so that it could be screwed onto the rod of a new strut, extending it by 50mm. If I remember correctly the thread is an M12x1.25
The guy who did the work for me did not understand what I was trying to do, but did what I asked him to, he felt that there was a chance that the extender could destroy a new strut if it was allowed to bottom out, and whilst that is certainly possible, the chances of it bottoming out are dictated by the choice of bump stop you have fitted, the OEM bump stops are closer to 100mm, so the chances of damage are actually quite low.

I don't think I uploaded the pictures correctly =/
