Fuel Filter

Good Day,

Just would like to know where you purchased your fuel pump and fuel filter?

Hi Nathan

I didn't replace the pump, just cleaned as much gunk off the outside as I could and re-installed it - still works perfectly.

The filter was bought from my local Mitsubishi dealer.  Like many of the parts I have bought for this car it had to be ordered from Japan as there are many very slight differences between this IO (from UAE) and UK cars.  In hindsight I should have bought a copy (not genuine Mitsubishi) for a quarter of the money on ebay.

Good news now though is I took the filter/pump assembly out the other day to see inside the tank and all that brown crud that you can see on the pump has gone. It was lined inside the tank and everywhere but now the tank wall is shiney clean.  I have deliberately been running Shell V-Power only as it has good cleaning properties but I suspect any normal grade fuel will have disolved the crud as well.

Any guesses where that brown "crud" went to?

My guess is it's in that nice new fuel filter.

Yes

Yes the filter but I suspect many gallons of fuel have disolved a vast majority of it.

Fitted a Witter tow bar

Fitted a Witter tow bar a couple of months ago and put it to the test the other weekend towing the game cart whilst out shooting.  Performed admirably but the big test comes when the car is over in Mallorca next year as it will be pulling a boat at least three times the weight of that cart!

Canister

It is under the battery..........It is sealed so you cannot clean it out.  Unless your car stinks of fuel vapour or the vacum pipes to and from it are perished I would leave it alone cheif yes

iO update from Mallorca

After my two week holiday in Mallorca this year I can confirm the car is performing perfectly.  I made it to Mallorca in 2016 fully loaded with stuff up to the roof without a hick-up.

Apart from having the A/C compressor re-built and a new A/C filter fitted it has required zero repaires (oil changes as the only maintenance).

Picture taken August 2017 - had "fun" registering it to Spanish plates being a non catalyst vehicle with no statutory/VIN plate!

Happy iO owner smiley
