Pajero Io - ECU Pinout
Hey guys,
I'm not sure if any of you have taken the time to work out an exact pinout of the factory ECU - But on the odd chance you have, did you come up with anything different / additional to this?
With us refitting an original wiring loom back in to Troy's Race car, I'm making an apator loom to plug the aftermarket ECU into the factory harness / Connector.
I've been through one of the manuals I've got access to and I think I've got most of it, but if there is anyone out there who has done something similar and has any more / extra or different data please speak now or forever hold your peace! ;-)

I've now been down both
I've now been down both routes with the Io specifically and can tell you making an adaptor loom to suit the factory connector is by far the easiest and neatest way. On this car specifically we have a non standard inlet manifold that relocates the throttle positions sensor and the idle control servo to the front of the engine - As well as having to integrate a Ballast pack for the EVO injectors we run. Even with aboth of these changes to the factory loom it is infinitely better than the setup we had previously where I ran ever wire seperately.
Since posting this I have confirmed the pinout give or take a stray wire and it happens to be virtually identical to that of an EVO 8 Lancer (Not too surpising I guess, Mits wouldn't do something twice if they didn't have to...). I've got an updated version with some more notes if you do decide to do it - There is also an external relay required as most aftermarket ECU's don't have the Earth required to switch the main ECU relay on (pin 38).
I've managed to collect most EVO ECU pinouts as well as drill down through the manual for the io and work out what does what - So if you do decide to do it, let me me know and I'll dig it up & post it.

I'm keen to hear about your engine, was this a standard mitsu manifold i.e. 4G93T etc?
I've been looking at putting a 4G93 DOHC head on my 4G94 and it looks achievable, aside from having to customise some of the water inlets from the head etc and upgrade the oil pump for the twin camshaft feed.

To be honest the inlet manifold we're now using was a result of good old fashion luck. For many years the car ran with the factory manifold and the subsequent messy inlet plumbing in terms of intercooler and pipes cris crossing around the engine bay.
When the car was bought by Troy I started to investigate some solutions and from memory I search 4G93 inlet manifold on ebay and came across one that happened to point in the right direction. Most of them don't but they are out there. I won't pretend to know what model it's off though however not too hard to find.
As for putting th twin cam head on - there was a reason we didn't do it when the engine was first built. I'm struggling to recall the exact details, however I think it was because of the oil pump / oil filter. Using the North West Oil pump / filter housing won't work with the twin cam head for some reason and in a round about way, it was as if it would work aslong as you never wanted an oil filter 8-/
But - I will point out, it was quite rushed and there was no where near the online resources back then to look things up - I had pick and payless at Blacktown here at Sydney and my recollection from working on various Lancers and conversions over the years at the Performance Shop I use to run.

And I shouls actually also ask - Why? Is there a reason? OR did you just want something different? I'm neither here nor there, I've done stranger things ;-)
twin cam head
Hi,
I am looking at doing a refresh on the engine soon, pistons, rings and bearings, and was thinking about building up a twin cam top end to give a bit more torque and get a bit more out of the 4G94.
I have also looked at the raptor superchargers from the lancers and thought about that too but have never dealt with forced induction before.
..so does your manifold point forward?

Yes - Current inlet manifold positions the throttle body toward the front of the engine / car - Makes it much easier with the intercooler in the fron entering on one side, exiting the other. With the oroginal Io manifold, it meant the pipework had to cross back over to the driver side which was unecesarily painful.
Twin Cam head - I'm not sure you'll get a massive increase to be honest. Especially for the work required... I would consider a MIVEC head from a 4G92 though (1.6L Cyborg - I recon that would be worth a litte extra effort).
With the same bore as our 1.8L engines it should bolt striaght on - the 1.6L delivers 128KW out of 1.6L so on a 1.8 or 2.0L that should be pretty cool!
Forced induction os worth every cent, but it is allot of work! Whether you're mounting a supercharger or a turbo, you'll have work cut out for yourself... The Turbo would be the way I would go, however on a budget I wouldn't write off the idea of a Supercharger as the response would be pretty cool!

I have a 4g94 which is not a really good base for a performance build-up. The long stroke stops it revv'ing well and i'd probably get more peak power from a 1.8 in the long run.
At this stage I'm focusing on finishing a project car at home to registered drivable status by which time I should be up to around 250,000kms on the clock, I'll look at an Evo 7 or Evo 8 swap or a NA 2.0L equivalent

I just bought a Petrol 1800CC Pajero IO with 98000 Kms. The engine I believe is a 4G93. I have yet to look under the bonnet to figure out whether it's the DOHC or SOHC. I am hoping for the former.
Despite spending an awful lot of time searching the internet/ebay etc, I have not found anyone that can supply an aftermarket perfromance chip for this model.
Can anyone recommend a supplier of performance chips please? I live in Nairobi Kenya, so a ready made installation kit would be great.

if it is the MPI model, then RPW (race performance works) in perth, australia can sell piggy-back ECU chips but you would want to dyno it to get the best tune.
if you have a GDI twin cam model (engine has a plastic engine cover as opposed to visible rocker cover) then you already have heaps of performance!

hey anybody could enlighten me as to what the "AT 1of2 and AT 2of2" implies to, i am using the OZ Rally 4G94 ECU on my engine and i have everything hooked up fine just those two i am not sure what it stands for. I know it is relating to the automatic transmission just wanna clarify what it actually is, so i can make the right connection for it on my splice in harness.

No, But im glad you have :) I might consider not replacing the entire loom when i go aftermarket ECU now that you have posted this :), ortho I normaly like to run a new loom just so i know where eerything is, I like to make things a little neater too.
