 Hi Guys,

i've been a member for some time (just reading and learning) but haven't had a question worth posting yet, so here goes:

Does anybody know if the 1.8 ltr (1999) pistons and conrod are native to the IO or are they the same as the Lancer 1.8?

reason for asking,

i got excited when i had got a little lift in the IO and made a bash plate, i found a nice river and had to drive up it about 30m to get to the next track, but when i got close to the bank i found myself floating and then sinking and she ingested some water and hydrauliced the engine.

one very wet interior and a bent #4 conrod, but all good fun,

don't try this at home.

cheers.

Bumma dude!I would emagine

Bumma dude!

I would imagine they are the same as atleast one of the lancers, download the manual from this website in this sections http://www.pajerio.com/forums/all-things-pajero-io-aka-pinin-tr4-montero... if will give you the compression ratio of the 1.8 iO. find a lancer with the same CR and chances are the piston is interchangeable. This is something I want to look into myself do work out the best pistons for a turbo rebuild oneday. .

Mits sometimes do funny things and change the sizes of things, But I would imagine that almost all 4G93s have the same conrods. The turbo Lancer GSR MIGHT have stronger ones, But i don't think they do.

Have you checked the ACL website? they should have a listing with part numbers.

Try this

Try this website.

http://mitsubishi.epc-data.com/

Put your chassis number in and it should take you to the page for your vehicle - once you have the OEM part number for the parts you need, you can google that and see what vehicles it was used in.

cheers, i have got the conrod

cheers,

i have got the conrod replaced, i went down to Imlachs in melbourne and ripped one out of a 93 lancer 4g93 (1.8ltr engine),

BTW the head on the donar LAncer engine was the opposite direction to the N-S motor in the IO, the head was rotated 180 degrees to the block, ie exhuast on opposite side of block.

and another difference i found was in another engine i bought as a drop in replacement 4g93 out of a different lancer model, this time the head was the same but the block was missing 2 of the bolt holes for the engine mount on the inlet manifold side. pitty i didn't notice this until i had already paid for it and got it home next to my engine. so now i have a big paper weight.

Bummer dude, yeah i think

Bummer dude, yeah i think they reversed flow around 96,could be all over the place with different cars tho?

Apart from the engine mount issue, would there have been any other reason it was not usable as a donor? What about the block you pulled the conrod from?

The block i pulled the donor

The block i pulled the donor Conrod was from a 93 4g93, it was at the wreckers, i just stripped the motor, head and sump, and pushed the piston out,

i took the Conrod and left everything there, i didn't take a good look at the block.

But my complete Lancer motor taking up space in my garage is very similar to the IO motor, but there seems to be enough things different enough to make it not suitable,

Iinlet side block different as previously mentioned

        Inlet plenum different,

        timing belt covers look different

        crank position sensor plug different,

coolant inlet position different, but possible to swap from io motor,

and i'm sure there is a bunch more little things that i havent come across that would make them unsuitable.
