Silencer box under the boot

Hi

Would like to find out if anyone has ever removed the silencer box that is directly underneath the boot section of the IO and went without it.

Does it make a difference to the sound of the IO or the performance? I personally do not like cars that have big exaust systems that make a lot of noise with tail pipe fittngs that you can store a butternut in it.

I want to see if I can use that space for something else. I was thinking of cutting the floor of the boot out and make it deeper for more space inside like a additional battery or something else.

Any ideas / thoughts
