If there was a 2.0l full car or half cut close by I would have considered it. But having had compatibility issues with other IOs parts before today I would have had to think hard about the risk.

Finally all the parts have arrived!!!! Hopefully the engine will be done by the time I return from a week away for work.

EDIT - Engine is completed, looking all new and shiney. All new bearings, seals, conrods, pistons and had the valves reseated. Should be going in this sunday! On the home straight now!

EDIT - Engine in, manafolds and few other bits to be fitted over the next week if there is time. Then startup.

Replaced the 35mm bore hilux shocks I had in the rear with some thinner pedders ones (still for a hilux). Ride is MUCH softer now, and the left hand one doesnt touch the car body while at full extension.

Have some blocks for a diff drop made, and should have the strut extenders ready in the next few days I hope.  I think my swaybar links are on the way out again, so Ill get some new ones and have them an inch or two longer then stock I think.

Diff drop done. Should be doing the strut spacers in the next few days I hope.  Its a bit firming to turn the wheel now, I would think because the steering arm is on more of an angle now.

Fitted the strut spacers

Fitted the strut spacers today! Suspension mods are finally complete. Even popped that front corner dint out, but took the photo before so. Silly me. Front and rear now have a 75mm lift, plus whatever the tires give.

So did adding the spacers return steering feel to normal?

Looks great!

Well it feels good today, so its either better or I am just used to it.  I remember installing the blocks on that side of the car was harder then the passenger side, I think the steering collum is pulled pretty tight with the diff blocks there.

I am pretty stoked with the outcome of the whole suspension setup now.

Looks like I fixed the steering issue, there is an adjustment where the steering shaft connects to the steering column. Just had to move it up a bit. Feels much better now.

Simmo, you would be surprised how cheap/easy the mod is.

Also fitted swaybar links that you make to the length you want. Made them 40mm longer then stock.  Also steering is still a bit funny, will buy/fit steering shaft exstender when I find out which one will fit an IO.

The exhuast isnt that loud as the only thing that is not stock is the muffler, which is just a smaller one then standard. I would get an full system done but I fear that combined with the snorkel might get me in sounds trouble.

Spacers are on their way :P

Bought a cheap awning today, should do as I wont use it super often.

Adjustable camber bolts turned up today to fix the fronts camber, and got some rubber flares to cover the wheels proper.  Just have to push myself do fit them as I really dont want to....

rear shock

What hilux model are your rear shock from, and if you have the reference number from your Peders that you have installed. I am thinking to lift a bit more (when I find some spring), but would like more flex at the same time. I have made an extender, works perfectly, but if I get new longer shock it will work out easier and may be cheaper too....

Thanks

Pedders part number 8128.  Not 100% sure which hilux its from.

On another note, Ive got a bad knocking under my car since I did some rough driving.  I think the rear engine mounts are had it and the transfer case is knocking on something. $350 bucks to buy new ones!

For your wheel, you mentionned that you could have them in 15 inch, but I can't find the brand....any name ? Thanks again

Rear Engine Mount CHEAP

I recently got a brand new rear engine mount for, wait for it...

$60!

HOWEVER, this is for my 99 5door, it might not be the same so double check first.

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/MITSUBISHI-Pajero-IO-QA-4-cyl-1-8L-Manual-3-99-10-01-ENGINE-MOUNT-Rear-/330938867742?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item4d0d7e601e
I was going to get that one, but then a mechanic friend of mine told me I might be able to get it cheaper.
"It's a Kelpro mount, part number: MT9184"

I took that info to an auto parts retailer, any should do but in this case it was Veale, and the next day they had one for me at $60.

Couldn't believe it, especially after the Mitsubshi dealer had me wait 2 weeks then told me they can't get them.

Hope this helps.

Does not matter so much now.  I was Tboned earlier tonight by a Prado which put my car on its side.  My only injury is to my right hand which went between the pillar and the ground for a moment, Nothing broke but hurts like a bitch.

I didnt really look over the IO at the time but ill go check it out tomorrow, doubt it will be fixable.

Sad news

This is heartbreaking after all the work you have put into her.
My first car was a Datsun 1200 sedan which I did my first full respray on. The day after the final cut & polish I was t-boned by an old lady in a valiant.
I hope the insurance company looks after you. I'll be interested to see what they make of the mods...

Size is not important; it's how you use it that matters!

Argh! At least you weren't badly hurt but it's horrible to lose something you've invested much more than just $$$ into.

Once you've sorted things out with insurance do you think you'll look out for another io?

Insurance wrote the car off and are paying, mods were not an issue.  I spoke to the independent assessor and he said he is just reporting a 2" lift and mud tyres.  I guess he didnt look hard enough to spot and dodgy parts, or just doesnt care enough to look that hard.

The suspension and wheels now belong to the insurance company, and the car is not in a spot where I could sneakily swap and stock gear back in before it goes.

My newly fitted roof racks are rooted so they are not worth salvaging either.  Awning was fine though.

I am going away for work for a week or so and will then be looking into a replacement car, not sure if I am going for another IO or maybe something else.  I wouldnt mind a land drover.....

Not sure about the law where you are, but here all personal effect belong to you, the awning is NOT part of the car and belong to you. It would have been the same  if you would have your swag on the roof rack...it is yours. I think anyway :)

If you are looking for another Io, I have seen this one, I think that it is a 2 litre and the price is not bad (driver side doors damaged)

I would love a 90.  But I am going for a 4 seater this time, and the 90s didnt have 4 seats untill like 2010, and they are outside me price range atm.

I am thinking a Discovery2 and tricking it up a bit.

discovery

I have done a few trip with someone with a discovery, diesel, great car in the bush. He just done a small lift, BFG mud tyres, straight 3 inch exhaust...fun. You can see it in a couple of my video. They tend to leak oil...

All the best with your new car, what ever you buy.

Saw your little beast at the wreckers today! :(

It was really sad to see the state that it was in, it must've been a good hit! Having said that though the suspension setup looked really good, it mustv'e been a joy to drive... and so much work put into it too!

grabbed a few parts for my car, only cosmetic interior bits though.

Nice, is it a diesel ? auto ? A couple of other person I went to do some 4wd have them, the turbo diesel one fitted a straight 3 inch exhaust ... no muffler...straight pipe !! (not the best on the highway !)   While on some, not too often, occasion the io was much better, it is an amazing car on the dirt road. The fuel consumption on the diesel is not that bad on the highway.

I think this is a 7 seater, are you planning to have kid...!!!

Happy landy....

Got the TD5 (diesel), the pretrol chews 25L/100kms!! The deisel only 12.  I am replacing one of my silencers to try reduce some lag, I know if the second one is replaced you can hear the turbo which would be cool, but I dont want to have to deal with the volume of the exhuast.  How loud was the one with a three inch pipe?

Definately a different car to the IO, both having there ups and down, I know I did a bunch of things in my IO which I doubt I could pull off as easy in this, but I also ran into place my IO had issues where I know the Disco will just power through.

Hahaha, I bought a 5 seater.  The seven seaters come with airbag rear suspension which I didnt want.  Nor did I really need seven seats! Although I do already have a kid.

noise from exhaust

Turbo diesel is the way to go on this car, unless you have unlimited fuel supply !!! Noise wise, the diesel become the V8 !! check my video, http://youtu.be/_QA8Ap5ddQI

It is actually not as bad as one could think. He fitted the 3 inch pipe as a bigger pipe wouldn't fit on the side. On this video, around 3min50 he is the towing vehicle and you can hear the noise...beautiful if you ask me .... On the highway he said that it is droning, but again it is just a straight pipe !

Have fun....

Happy .....
