What car has a 4G93 or 4G94 in the correct configuration for the Pajero iO?

When I first got my iO I thought I would be able to just chuck in a 4G63 from an EVO, or a 4G93 turbo from a GSR, Unfortunately they have a different bell housing bolt pattern. The GSR and EVO 0 - 3 also flow the wrong way, with the intake on the passenger side and the exhaust on the drivers side(Australia / Right hand drive) So i don't think there is any readily available drop in turbo option. Im also not confident in the ability of the Pajero iOs gearbox to take that much power, which is a shame as id like to built an 11 sec 1/4 Pajero iO smiley.  With there light weight, high percent anti squat and the ability to select RWD, I dont think it would be to hard to achieve!

But not to worry, I have done a few turbo conversions in the past, some from NA Carby setups to Fuel injected Turbo with aftermarket engine management systems. So converting the standard motor to a low boost turbo setup should be almost perfect anyway.

With all the 4G93 and 4G94 motors at places like pick-a-part available for next to nothing, it might be worth getting one to rebuild with better pistons, the Compression ratio I want for the boost I plan to run etc and any other customizations i might wany, Maybe even chuck in a DOHC version?
It would hopefully limit the time the car was off the road also, assuming I dont need too much off the original motor? Im not sure what ancillaries are unique to the Pajero iO? Sump air con mounts, etc.

Can anyone think of any other problems there be by using an after market ECU? Airbag will still work? (its a G meter thing)

Or maybe Ill just chuck a turbo on the stock motor and chip it now, Then build a new motor to go in later.

only the pajero io will suit

only the pajero io will suit the pajero io,

water jacket and thermostat are totally custom as is head.

I was looking at the MIVEC twin cam conversions for the 4G94 but water ports would be nasty for somthing that would add little potential horespower.

I'm going the wildcat extractors and a port/polish intake with OS throttlebody and fat injectors, should give me a bit more, but not enough to blow the transfercase (which feels a bit weak behind the 2.0L at full-noise)

modif

Hello Bob,

How did you go with your mod

"I'm going the wildcat extractors and a port/polish intake with OS throttlebody and fat injectors, should give me a bit more, but not enough to blow the transfercase (which feels a bit weak behind the 2.0L at full-noise)"

I have seen this modification on another site with a haltech interceptor and tune it all together. And I would like to do the same, happy with it ...

Thanks again,

Claude/Claud io

GRK you killed my dream! I

GRK you killed my dream! I had been planning to save up and drop a cheap gsr 4g93t straight in, didn't realise it flowed the wrong way and had different bell housing. Would have been such an easy conversion. Bummer. I think your idea is the way to go, just rebuild a 4g93/94 with low cr pistons and rods, stronger bolts etc and a ball bearing turbo that has minimal lag, perhaps a gt20? Too broke at the moment to look into further sadly :(

Our dreams are not dead!

Our dreams are not dead! Turbo is still an easy option, Or like OzBob said in another post, maybe we could just import a 1.8 tubo iO half cut from Japan an stick in, They have more power and torque than the GSR 1.8 too!

But I know the feeling! Too broke to depress myself looking into the price of it all :)
