Hey,

Just wondering if any one can help me out. on my last 4wd trip i think i bottomed out it wasnt very hard but it shifted something and as a result my gear stick (manuel) shifted to the drivers side so much so that to get into revers i had to take the plastic off around it selector in the car. the car still drove fine and every gear worked, on the trip back home (about 200km) it all shifted back into place and i havnt managed to work out what it was. any suggestions?

Thanks

gear stick movement

The transfer box attaches to the crossmember with those hollow "O" type rubber mounts, they have a fair amount of side flex in them. You might have just pushed everything to the side and jammed it in place with somthing or caught it on somthing on the floor pan. I doubt you tore an engine mount but that also might have happened but I'd say it would have had to be a massive impact to achieve that!

I'd check your transfer box lower case for damage and oil leaks just incase.

I also push my Io to the max

I also push my Io to the max when I go out. The bracing underneath that protects the gearbox/transfercase hooked onto many things before. I once got it so stuck that I had to jack up the car to put rocks underneath the tyre just to get it out. The funny part is it was on my way home from work on a friday and saw potentional play ground next to the highway. Can you imagine seeing a little car like the IO next to a highway with all fours in the air? We went up the mountin (Magalies Berge Oldest mountin range in the southern hemispher) a while ago. Going up was a breeze but down wards it was a nightmare. I sounded like the IO is felling apart as that thing and the A arms caught everywhere. That basiclly messed up my whole funfulled day. There and then I decided I have to get it lifted to get the A arms at a better angle and to put a full belly plates from the front to the back

Cheers 4 eers

OK this has just started

OK this has just started hapening to me too!

The first time was when i nailed up a short but steep climb, i though what the hell JK500s problem just happened to me! I cant get it into reverse without hitting the plastic. I put it in reverse and gave it some torque, it twisted everything back into place.

but the problem has grown worse  quickly, Saturday we went for another 4x4 drive and and its piping out everytime the driveline gets tramped, I was forever dumping the clutch in reverse to get it straightened up again, I was sure I knew what the problem must be. I had a look under today and sure enough, both of the engine mounts have delaminated and the rubber has come off the steel. I took some pics that ill upload latter.

Need to find a supply for some upgrated mounts now. anyone know of any nolathane style mounts for these cars?

Here ya go, you can see how

Ill get under the car and take a pic next time I get the box twisted just to make sure and to show whats happening when its twisted.

But for now, heres the pics i have, you can see how the top has torn away from the rubber and the engine is now just sitting on the runners.

1st pic is the passenger side, second pic is a close up crop from the same pic, the 3rd pic is the drivers side, there not very clear, but hopefully gives you an idea,

wow, yours looks worse than

wow, yours looks worse than mine. I wander if them made them stronger later on, or for the ZRs? I would have thought the 2ltrs would destroy them faster?
I guess once your tramping the system on a hill climb the engine is almost irrelevant. Firmer mounts would have to help stop it "axle"  tramping so much. and hopefully help save the lifes of the CVs etc. Ill do some Google hunting for mounts tonight.

Thinking about it they are

Thinking about it they are probably right.

In compression only, urethane last longer. If any vibration, axial, torsional or shear load etc is present I would argue the pro's of natural then silicon rubber.

I'll ask around.

Urethane.

Apparently urethane, (of a suitable grade?) is the go for engine mounts & 'they' do it all the time. All good no bad.

'They' would have to fabricate a mold & that may be an added cost, but other than that, no probs.

stuffed up case

ok after i fitted my clutch in nov last year i had problems with it and my gearbox. it all started with my thrust bearing that screamed that led to the replacement. After fitting a LUK clutch the guy showed me the inside of the gearbox? It was full of paste (mixture between old oil that became grease and metal shavings) i told him well i havent had any problems so far with my gearbox it was only the clutch that had an issue. he then flushed it and assembled everything back together. drove away and it had a "sing" to it like the sound it makes when you reverse? ok took it back then the guy said he cant take responsibly for it due to the paste we found. since then i lived with it cos ppl told me nothing will happen but it was irretating the crap out of me. ok recently the third gear males a unique sound but only in third. now im getting concern cos ppl are talking about syncros and stuff. getting the case fixed is not an option because of the cost where majoritygoes to labour. question i have does any of the other pajero's or maybe a L200 fits on the IO?

any advice will be taken plz guys
