I mainly joined this forum to see if I can get some technical help on my 1989 Pajero, it has the 4G54 2.6L Petrol engine.

I just brought the car off a mate who just did an engine swap.

the engine he pulled out of another car, had no carby so it coudn't be tested. So anyway it starts with no oil pressure. Squirting oil into where the pressure switch screws into, and it will start with oil pressure.

So. it has had the balance shaft removed already, by the looks of it, the oil galleries look to be blocked up. I currently have the oil pump apart and cannot find anything wrong with it.

I have checked the oil pickup also.

Can anyone suggest anything else to inspect??

I will upload some photos of it..

cheers

oil pump

I think that these oil pump may need to be "primed"

I would check that the sprocket that drive the oil pump is fitted as it should and that it actualy drive the pump

If you have the oil pump out, can you test it using a drill to make it turn and see if it work, a bit basic as it suppose to work with a certain pressure, but if it doesn't work...it doesn't work !

It will be pirmed before it

It will be pirmed before it goes back in, I do asume it wasn't primed before though.

This is the top balance shaft blocked.

This is the bottom one behind the pump.

I measured the clearances today.

The only thing is, pressure releif valve spring free play was 46mm where the recommended from the manual is 47mm
