Since talking with Claude and popping into a few air induction specialist shops, decided to clog the resonator to increase air flow and get back that sweet sweet induction sound.

I found a rubber bung that fit the hole in the resonator exactly! and it was tight to just push in so I added some double sided tape for extra safety and jammed it in tight untill I couldn't pull it out with my fingers!

Then drilled a hole so I could add a screw to make DOUBLE sure it wouldn't get sucked up into the air intake (althought doubt it would)

After it was all tight and I was happy it wasn't going to come out (ever again) I reinstalled to see if what everyone had said was true!!

And... It was! It definetly has a whirl to the air box induction now and I don't know why Mitsubushi have tried to drown it out :( because it almost sounds beastly!

Note the main reason for doing this was to increase the air flow for the snorkel that (once sorted on which way to go) should be going in with some of the tax return $$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Would reccomend it as it mighten be noticeable at lower rpm but merging onto a highway or giving it some right foot you can REALLY notice a cleaner/unbroken  acceleration note and induction whirl.

Cheers

.

I have the feeling its there as the car probably has some noise limit it has to be under which it might not pass so easily with the induction noise.  Personally I am with you and think it sounds awesome removed.

I currently have a system with no restriction at all. only a pod filter housing straight out to a snorkel.  Now it makes some serious noise.

Yees Singlecell!!

I am glad you agree haha I read somewhere in your build about the nice snorkel induction noise!

I am looking at getting a stainless steel system like yourself but can't get my mind made up about design!!

Was the pod filter kit you used just a universal kit? And by straight through did you remove all the air sensors just before the stock box?

air sensor

Air sensor have to stay....no choice in the matter !!! Singlecell Io may not have one but you need to keep yours. The air sensor have a plate at the front to "guide" the air, this stays too. If you decide to fit a K&N pod you will have to get an adaptator to fit them both together (under $20 from memory).

Glad you like your new induction noise :), all little mod but add up at the end.

.

Yeah just a universal one. The pod itself if permanently fitted to one end of the housing so you clean it as a posed to replace it.  Not as good as the K&N filter one but a fraction of the price if I remember correctly.

I have the 4g18 which has no sensors in the induction side.
