Engine oil capacity

Hey guys.....       I've been looking for a oil capacity chart for the IO but the only thing I've been able to find is reccomendations for oil types and oil change frequency. Is there no specific literage for engine oil? I know I can just check the oil with the stick but I would think that there should be some information on exactly how much oil goes in the engine. My engine is a 2L.     Oh and one more thing, the engine is making some sort of rattling sound, cand that be due to oil? When I bought the car it was just imported from japan and naturally the guy who brought it over had no information about last oil change and when is the next one due, so I'm just going to play safe and change oil and filter anyway.
Any ideas would be helpful......   thanks

Oil

Hi,

If you´re talking about the 2.0L petrol 4G94 motor, it's capacity is 3.5L of engine oil, if you replece the oil filter too (which I strongly recommed)...

Cheers!

yes 2.0L petrol 4G94 is the one

yes 2.0L petrol 4G94 is the one. I was under the impression that 2L engines usually take about 5L of oil but, hell thats even better))) Thanks a bunch

any ideas?

any ideas on the rattling nois of the engine and it being connected with oil change due? I've taken a good look and there isn't anything loose, nothings touching the walls in the hood that would make the sound so its defianetely a sound from the engine itself.

Valve lifters...

Valve lifters? It's a pretty common noise this engine does....

Lifter rattle

Using an oil flush product and a synthetic oil next oil change might help, works well with the v6 engines

sad thing is that I already

sad thing is that I already changed the oil))))) I think the best thing is to just take it to a motorist..... I just hope its not anything seriouse..... I'm a bit down on the financial side at the moment))))

the interesting thing I

the interesting thing I noticed is that the noise that the engine makes i only present pre minimal RPM when the car is in neutral.... as soon as I accelarate even a little and bring the rpm to about 1000 the noise goes away and the engine works very smoothly.........

engine noise

Is the noise going away after the engine warming up? what sort of oil did you put in 5w40, 20w40? Your idea to take it to the mechanics could be a good one as noise can be difficult to diagnose.

I agree with the lifter, as they tend to go away when the rpm go up (higher oil pressure) but they could be noisy for different reason! They could be worn out, they could be full of sludge (because of lack of oil change in the past) and as Bob mentioned a engine flush could help. Your new oil might not be the best, thinner or thicker oil might help. Pb with oil pressure....

But it could be something else!!

Starting with an engine flush would be the cheaper option, even if you have change the oil, and put a new filter, again, as well. The book say 3.5 litre of oil, add 0.3 litre if you replace the filter.

We talk about that in another post, did you found/read it?

Happy io

Yes I read the posts about

Yes I read the posts about the motor oil and capacity... I would also think that the noise should go away after warming up but the strange thing is that its completely the opposite. when starting the car in the morning or after some time that the engine hasen't worked it works normally and smoothly, after driving around a bit and warming up the engine it starts to do the rattling when idle. The only thing that makes me think that it isn't a sound from the lifters is that the sound specifically comes when the engine is idle and the rpms go down a lot. I can see it on the tachometer, the arrow just sways up and down and won\t keep still while idle. And so when the car is idle the noise might or it might not come depending on the rpm. It tends to go away for a couple of seconds and come back again, and all this is also visible on the tachometer. If it were lifters I think the sound would be constant and the rythm would match the engine sound instead of it comeing and going randomely along with the rpms.....
My oil is a 10 - 40 Pakelo lubricants. the filter is Wix made.

I think I might go for the engine flush but after taking it to the motorist to get it inspected. You never know, mabe its something comepletly different)))

thanks for the input

In my experience ...

My experience has been that the lifter noise can be quite erratic - unlike noisy mechanical lifters, which are as you described both constant & rhythmic - the situation here is that the valve clearance is varying as the oil pressure changes, and so the noise changes with it.

You may also have lower oil pressure at idle, making the noise more apparent at idle.

A sure fire way to identify it - remove the oil filler cap with the engine at idle - lifter noise will become more audible.

Good Day Sir! I started a

Good Day Sir!

I started a thread on this topic as I have been experiencing (maybe similar) engine noise (light tapping) on our IO which we attribute to valve-lifters.

Please do take time to check out the topic, its "valve-lifters" under the engine and driveline section in forums, there are alot of helpful folks out there and you might find some of the advice that's been posted in the topic that might work for youcheeky.  Cheers!
