Finding a suitable ingnition wire

G'day everyone,I have just signed up and have been having a good look around the site.We just bought a 99 pajero io,4 door  1.8l, she's in good condition and drives great. I wan't to connect a charger for my thumper battery pack and am having trouble locating a suitable ignition wire under the bonnet,just about everything seems to be connected to accessories,any ideas will be appreciated.We live up in the mid north of sa, and are looking forward to hitting some tracks. I don't seem to be able to download manual either,it tells me theres an error anyway great site cheers

What exactly

What is the igntion wire required to do?  Power something?  Control something?

Why not just connect it to the battery? Just make sure to put a fuse as close to the battery as you can.

My guess ...

And let me emphasize here, is that this a guess, is that he wants to use a charger of some sort, to charge "a thumper" - I'm not quite certain what that it - from the vehicle's electrical power system.  Connecting it directly to the battery could potentially leave that charger runnng when the engine is off, resulting in the vehicle battery being drained and unable to crank the vehicle.

A relay connected directly to the battery (and fused), controlled by the ignition feed might be a better option, especially given Mitsubishi's fascination with the ETACS system.

You are right with having a relay or even a dual battery isolator to make sure you dont run your main battery flat.  But I would think as long as your not going to connect the thumper battery to the car while it is flat or running a fridge or something you should be safe with a direct connection.  Now if someone felt they might make this mistake and do leave it connected to the vehicle in these situations I would very much go with somehting slightly fancier then a direct connect. Noone wants a flat battery in the middle of nowhere.

After a quick google ...

It seems the Thumper "in car charger" has an isolator and presumably the connection to the ignition is a part of the isolator control - easiest place to find an ignition feed would be directly off the ignition switch, under the dash - I'm also pretty certain you can find other feeds in the underhood fuse panel..

Yes my usual setup would be a redarc smart isolator (they're excellent) and a second battery, not much roo m in the mini paj.

Odd something that isn't meant to be a permanent installation doesn't have an auto cut in/out. I would agree with fordem and go for the fuse box.
