Evening all. Sorry to be blunt, but is there:
A- A standard front Io strut, and its part no
B- A raised front Io strut, and its part no...
My strut part no is: MR554613 GK15-KYB. Doesnt seem to match the nos that have provided so far.
For an Oz spec Io, Lwb, 1.8l
Cheers, Ben :)

strut

Nothing wrong with blunt....

Short reply :)

A/ There is 2 front standard front strut that I know of in Australia, the KYB 334442 and the KYB 334405.

B/ No raised front strut that I know of. This said fitting the 334405 instead of the 334442 should give you around 25 mm lift.

I think that because your car have had a healthy life (over 300000kms yes, info from past post) your strut may have been replaced in the past. I wouldn't be surprise that your maybe original 334442 have been replaced by the 334405. (that would explain why your Ironman spring gave you 60 mm lift, again info from past post)

Fordem thread would confirm this http://pajerio.com/forum/strut-data

Happy io

That's a 2 door (SWB) strut

As far as I can tell the MR544613 fits the H67W frame - a short wheel base, 2 door, 2.0 engined iO - the KYB 334405 is listed as a replacement.

claude is right

Hi ben - welcome!

series 1 io's (yours) would have come standard with struts that have the lower spring mount 25mm closer to the tyre than later io's

series 2 io's (mine, Claudes, Simmo's etc) come standard with struts where the lower spring plate is 25mm higher than old io's

the changeover was around late 1999 but some 1.6L io's still run series 1 struts up til 2000

the strut length from bottom mount to top of shaft are the same, same comression/extension, they are both identical EXCEPT the spring mount is welded 25mm lower on the old struts tube vs newer strutswill all bolt into each io etc. the series 1 io's came with 25mm longer springs as a result.

most series 1 io's have been around long enough now that the struts have been replaced with KYB etc after market items which in australia are now pretty much all the new series 2 style with the higher spring perch. part number is 334405

effect: if you put a series 2 strut into an io with series 1 front springs (which are 25mm longer but softer) you will:
1 - find it hard to compress your spring enough to fit
2 - get about 15-20mm lift with standard springs

if you put series 2 springs in a series 1 strut you will get a 20mm lowering

i personnaly chose to find and run series 1 standard springs in my series 2 strut as I get 15-20mm lift but a softer ride than with kings/dobinsons etc which are just hard.

WARNING:
early after market lifted springs i.e. early kings and dobinsons were made for the series 1 strut and are too long for new series 2 struts. Dobinsons and kings didn't realise this issue and some of the guys on this forum found out the hard way about 2 years ago. EBS had this issue, I think FABio did too and their build posts reflect this,
the effect is your strut is lifted a shitload, maybe 50-60mm. This is great for lift BUT your strut spends most of it's time extended more than normal, the result is when your wheel drops down the strut reaches full extension too quickly and impacts internally on the top seal of the strut with a loud clunk. this can end up tearing your strut towers and struts - BAD.

if you already have kings (yellow) or dobinsons (blue) springs, the simple way to check is measure the bottom of the strut to the underside of the spring perch - there are several posts about this and will identify if you have series 1 or series 2 struts.

IF you have series 1 struts and standard series 1 springs and don't want them - post them up in the forsale/trade section as several guys are chasing them for series 2 builds.

hope this helps!

Ah soo... Thanks very much

Ah soo...

Thanks very much guys, much clearer now. I intend to get the strut with the higher spring pan, and fit the standard springs. Much more comfortable and compliant than aftermarket. Rear are sagging a wee bit too- $160 each genuine! Enqiuring about a set of KYB for Pinin/Io foerm the U.K. Bout $230 all up. Mite even through in ther matching fronts. Never gonna be a high rider, but another inch or so would always be handy... Ive had ideas about redesigning the lateral gearbox brace so it it much shallower or runs above the box. Theres a good 50mm or more there i reckon. Might be biting off more than i can chew there...

Oh, and as you guys would be aware, the Io only has single speed intermittent wipers. did a bit of investamigation and found that a 03 lancer wiper switch will fit. Well half fit.. the connection on the underside of the unit fits an Io. I had speed adjustable intermittnt wipers! The top connector, which is much different to the Io igintion harness, operates the lights, indicators, and so on. Im trying to find what wire colour controls what, and maybe i can amtch it up to the lancer switch and get full function. I need the Io wiring details, and trhe Lancer wiring details, hopefully theyll match up ok. Mka esure you get the Lancer hatch.I bought ther sedan. No rear window wiper function...The Outlander wiper switch looks good...

Heres a project... :)

where are you?

where are you? UK or australia?

if you want some really cheap lifted rear springs, visit your loal wrecker as the FRONT coils out of these cars go great in the REAR of the io:

australian issue BA mazda astina ( years 7/94-8/98, engines-1.6L 1.8L, model codes BA11P1 BA1161)
and australian KJ-KL ford Laser (years 94-99, engines-ALL, model codes LASER KJ KL)

basically the part no for the king spring pajero io lifted rear coil (KFFS-90) matches the standard replacement coil for the astina and laser for those years

also king springs now reference the series 1/series 2 strut differences in their catologue:

year 98-2002
make PAJERO IO
raised front KMFS-900*
raised rear KFFS-90
* NOTE: USE KMFS-900SP WHEN FITTING WITH KYB PART NO 334405

so kings KMFS900 are series 1 struts and KMFS900SP are series 2 as confirmed by KYB part no

Im near Maitland, NSW. Oh

Im near Maitland, NSW. Oh ok.  Ive read about the mazda springs. Do they pick it up at all, or stays fairIy close to standard? Just alittle lift would be handy, but nothing huge.  I dont want to go any harder spring rates. I dont belive anyone makes a taller spring with oem rates. Ill check them out. Thanks. I just wanted oem springs and ill get some 25mm spacers made in the future. Mitsubishi are going to give me a good price on a pair. Theyre 5 min down road, and if theres any probs theyre close. Ill grab a pair of mazda springs too and have aplay.

Cheers :)

mazda spring

The lift will depend a lot on how tired your original spring are. This said, I confirm the 1.5 inch lift...but this is on a 2 doors, it will be a bit less on yours (4 doors). This is because the 2 doors have a shorter spring than the 4 doors, by about 10 mm.

The Mazda spring is a bit firmer but only by a small difference. We are yet to find someone not happy with them...and they can be very cheap !! Some are very happy with the kingspring, some find them too firm.

Happy io

The Mazda springs sound like

The Mazda springs sound like the go. They should give around 25-35mm Im after. I'm happy to go little stiffer, but the Ironmans were a bit over the top....

Thanks for your help y'all
