Hello all. Recently, I've been having an issue with my Pajero IO.

When pulling the lever on the floor infront of the driver's seat to pop the gas tank door open, it doesn't pop open anymore. The cable is still intact as once the lever is held, the door can be popped open with a key or a coin. I'd like to rectify it before it gets worse. Does anyone have any guidelines or tips for how to get it back to normal?

Also, what might have cause it to develop this problem in the first place. I can avoid it from happening again if I'm able to get it rectified.

Thank you in advance for your responses.

Welcome to the forum,

It can be 2 different problem that I think of, the cable doesn't fully open the door latch or you have lost the spring that push the door open. See picture for what the spring look like, is yours still here ?

I hope this help

One more possibility

A lack of lubrication on the hinge can cause the door to "bind" making it too stiff for the spring to push open.

Sorry for the late response.

Sorry for the late response. Things were a little hectic this past week. Thank you for the responses.

I checked and the spring is still there. I'm not sure if the main pin for the door became bent but the door doesn't align properly when closing. In hindsight, I should have taken a picture of it closed.

If the door doesn't align...it might be your problem. Try to realign it, and check that it does move freely.

Just a quick update on this.

Just a quick update on this. I got it back in working order. I had to use some elbow grease and push it back into alignment. I'm assuming that one of the gas attendants forced the door back too much when I went to fill up.

Thank you for the responses. Appreciate it.
