as above really to go a different way rather than bigger and off-road tyres, what is the biggest alloy and low profile tyre size, that'll fit on the pinin / iO ??

been thinking about having a set for the street, and reverting the standard alloys to run on some off-road tyres, so can mix-and-match depending on what the week brings.

Mitsi Magna and Ford Falcon

Mitsi Magna and Ford Falcon run the same stud patterns.  Perhaps something from the XR8 stable?

Whoops...sorry

Whoops, sorry, my bad.  It's wrong of me to assume we're all living in Australia.

OK....I'm actually looking at an alternative because personally I favour steel wheels over alloy for off-road work.  Do you guys get Rav4 Toyota's over there?  They're a soft-roader about the same size as a Pinin/io and made by Toyota.

The stud (pcd) pattern is the same as the Pinin (5x114.3) and the offset is roughly the same.  The steel wheels were fitted to Rav 4's of 1995 vintage and measure 16x6.5.  They're not a bad looking wheel, but I'm yet to actually do a trial fit.  A mate of mine has a Rav4 so I'm going to see if we can arrange a fit up session soon.

This might not be of any interest to you as I'm feeling you'd prefer the "pimp my ride" look rather than the mud wrestler look.smiley

Thats alright. Yeah we get

Thats alright.

Yeah we get the Rav4's over here 3+5 door models. Pimp my ride haha - maybe, was basically looking to chop and change the wheels over from time to time, i wanted to find out about the bigger wheels, for mainly the everyday road use. And when i take it over to Wales, change them back to the original set up, with the standard rims but hopefully fit some bigger better off road tyres - bit like they do in Scandinavia and Germany - summer tyres, then switch over to the winter type.

Rav 4 won't fit

The centre bore is too small on rav 4 wheels. I found this out just before I was going to bid on a set on eBay. There are a couple of threads on wheel sizes which have this info. If you want steel, try a ford escape steel wheel. Should fit straight on, the only trouble will be finding a set.

Size is not important; it's how you use it that matters!

i was lucky enough to get

i was lucky enough to get myself the Ford set and it was actually just from a friends advice since he knew smeone selling and he did not need it so he recommended that guy to me. so far i really like the fit and all, works really well so it does have all the advantages for off road especially. i have been cutomizing my ride for quite a while now so that i can get the est out of it and so far i love how its doing. hopefully i will be able to post some pics here when im done.
