Hi Guys,

Found this forum while trying to trouble shoot the Mrs' Pajero IO :) And this was the only place I could find the complete workshop manual for it. Found some great build threads as well.

We own a 99' 1.8l 5sp man 4door PajeroIO (for 2+ years now) and she loves the car. I don't have much mechanical knowledge on how to work on cars so will be troubling you guys with some noobish questions. :)

Cheers,

Sidds

Hi Bob,  Thanks for the warm

Hi Bob,

Thanks for the warm welcome :)

That would be great. Getting some minor stuff fixed on the car and we should be ready for a drive!. I don't have any off-road tyres or under body protection though. Would I need them for the tracks? Wouldn't mind a 'novice ground' where we can learn the basics of 4w driving. :)

Oh, and I love the food at The Polish in North Tamborine, have you been there?

novice tracks

Most of the tracks are easy and can be done with highway tyres in the dry, both are routes from oxenford up into eagle heights. Once you do them it's hard not to choose them over the main road :)

Suspension

On another thread you said that you got the suspension replaced by "Pedders" This is for me a warning sign. Did they replaced the spring ? front and rear ?

If they did you may not have any droop left. Check this link http://www.pajerio.com/forum/kingspring-and-kyb-mix

Had a look through the

Had a look through the receipts for work done. They didn't specify the part numbers but this is what was done at Pedders:

- Steering rack end

- Front Strut X2

- Rear Shock X2

- 4208 Adj. Stabilizer Link Pin

- 81250 Camber Pin Kit 12mm

from what I remember, they did put in KYB parts for the shocks/struts.

What exactly is droop? And how does it affect the car? Anyway I can tell if I have any droop left? Sorry for the noob questions.

suspension

The droop is the amount of down travel the suspension have. The shock absorber (or strut) have a full compression and a full extension, by not modifying the suspension properly your car can be driving (on a flat section) with the shock (or strut) in the full extension, leaving no down travel left.

Because of what you wrote above, I would say that you are fine. To check measure the vertical distance from the guard to the bottom of the rim, on a flat surface. Jack you car in the middle (cross member), measure again, the difference between both will be your droop. 0 to 10 mm is unsafe, 10 to 25 is not good, over 50 is plenty, in the middle is fine....very average figure, just to give you a general idea...

Without explaining the all lot. The io have two type of strut, and  2 type of spring.  Anyway, fitting the newer strut with the old spring and you get 25 mm lift. I think that is what they have done to your car, this is why they replaced the rear spring, to match your new 25 mm lift at the front. Your car, originally  have the older type of strut and spring, but you cannot buy the old model strut. The newer type of strut is better because the lower spring plate is 25 mm higher than the older type, this give you a bit more clearance to fit bigger tyres...ie 225/75/16

I took the measurments it had

I took the measurments it had 30mm difference on the front passenger side. The other side I think had a different reading. I will try and take it to a flat area and measure again.

Thanks for the help again Claude :)
