I have a 1997 Pajero IO 1.8, 5 door and I have had it since new. Previously had a 1988 Landcruiser and the IO is a great replacement as it goes almost anywhere the Landcruiser travelled. I had considered trading the IO in on a FJ Cruiser. But after finding this forum and the modifications that can be made to the IO, I decided to keep the IO as it is such a good 4x4 and so comfortable. The IO is going into Pedders for a suspension fix as it shakes very badly at 80-90 kmh. I will get them to raise the vehicle so that I can use larger tyres as the Federal Tyres that I have at the moment are useless in mud.I have been looking at some BFG KM2 225/75/16. Does anyone know if these will fit my IO?

Hello From Canberra

I am in Canberra too!, In what side are you? South for me...check my built! No  the 225/75/16 don't fit on 97 model unless you change the front strut, you should find plenty of reading regarding these on the forum:)

Pedder used to be a top place to get the suspension fixed but in the last few years I have heard that they can be expensive and not "competitive" to put it nicely! Revell in Fyswhick, Isa street, would, at least for me, be a better choice.

I am happy to have a look at your "shaky" io problem...

Anyway, welcome to the forum, I might see you around the corner:)

Happy io

Hi from South Canberra

I am also from Southside and go trout fishing at Lake Eucumbene and Brindabella, although not for a while. I used to frequent Flea Creek a lot.

Do you know what size (non Standard) tyre fits a 1997 IO and should I have the suspension lifted?

I am having a Pedders 28 point check done, but will take your advice and go to Revells for the fix.

Thanks

Flea creek

The gentle Anny track to access Flea Creek have been redone, same for McIntyre hut,  in the last few year and it is now relatively an easy climb, still steep!

The 28 check point is a good idea, and relatively cheap. For the tyres, I am not sure, depending what you want to do with the io, replacing the front suspension could be the best option as you could fit the 225/75/16 but they (the tyres) will take a bit of power out of the 1.8 engine. Before fitting the 225/75/16 I had the 215/70/16 BFG A/T, they are not as good but much better that what you have! they don't give you much lift but they don't chew much power of the engine, are better on wet road than the 225/75/16 km2. and lasted around 80 000km on my car. Not easy too choose!

If you have the time, go and see "Pat's Tyres" in Fyshwick, mentioned my name (Claude), they will look after you and they should be happy to test if they fit or not, the rear should be fine, the problem might be the lower plate of the front strut (25mm lower than my model)

i am trying to do a small video of a recent day trip done to lake Eucumbene, it should be finished in a few days...cold but beautiful place!

I hope that we can see some pictures of your beast!

Happy io
