Hi guys!

I found out that it's so difficult for me to find some preferred 16 inch tyres such as 225/75/16 in Malaysia. No major 4wd tyres dealers stock this size. Can I fitted a 15 inch rims & tyres without any problem? and which size is recommended?

Currently my IO is fitted with king springs setup KMFS-900SP+KFFS-90 + KYB 334405 + KYB 343408

Right now, what is readily available option in my country is

1) 245/75/16 ( does this size too big and wont fit in my current suspenstion lift set up?)

2) 235/75/15

Please help me to decide.

Regards,

Amzari

Tyre sizes

Hi,

First off all if you want to fit 15" rims you must find rims with a offset of 45mm/46mm(positive). On the choice of tyres i would say go for 225/70/15 if you want the closest Circumference as the original 215/65/16 fitted. If you want to upsize on the 15" tyres then go for 215/75/15 (2.57% or 9mm higher than standard) or 225/75/15(4.57% or 16mm higher than standard)......

The 235/75/15 is 24mm or 6.94% higher than o.e.m size

Hi Amzari, have you tried

Hi Amzari,

have you tried already if those 15" rims fit? I'm curious what you might have learned.

I've had a look at the site of German steel rim manufacturer Alcar and tried to find all the 15 to 17 inch rims they make whose pitch circle diameter and centre bore match the IO's (5x114.3, 67.1mm). Alcar makes replacement steel rims which are mainly used for winter tires. So there's bound to be cars that drive around on the same size rims. So you could just get used rims from those models. Sadly, Alcar does not list the specific models on their site though, only the makes. (There's a list of makes on this site though: http://www.lochkreisdaten.de/lochkreis/5x114.3/67.1/ Only that one sadly has no rim sizes ;))

I've only been looking at steel rims as I'd never put alloys on car I was going to drive off-road ;-)

You could also use wheels with a little less offset than the IO's standard 46mm. This will let the tires stick out some more, which might even help to acommodate wider tires. It will also change suspension geometry and increase the wear of the ball joints etc, so it's probably best not overdo it (unless you know what you're doing), but a few millimetres rarely hurt.

Alcar has the following wheels:

There were a few others with larger or smaller centre bores that I left out, but you could probably fit those too with slight modifications.
