Hey New to the forum and new the Pajero. have a 1998 4g93 IO. Bought it for a beater/ runaround while in a carib country for a few months. Trying to get it back into a decent shape on the cheap so i can sell it when i leave.

So when i start up there is a bit of a rough idle. if i try to drive right away the engine surges, sputters, has very low power. if in neutral i can rev no problem but in drive it struggles to move the vehicle. after about 1 min of idle/driving everything smooths out and it drvies great for around 15-20 minutes. then the check engine light comes on and the car starts limping. No power, doesnt want to rev. You need to floor it to accelerate at all and then the car will not shift up untill you ease off the throttle. but 0-60 is prob 30 seconds or more haha. Basically just limps around. if i leave car off for 5 min its fine. This doesnt happen often cause i rarely drive longer than 10 min at any one time.

When i bought the car it had been sitting for a few months. Cleaned throttle body (it was black). Switched out new spark plugs all were gross but plug #1 had a bunch of oil on it i think i just need a o-ring. Dont know if that will be the issue with the engine light/ the power and idle issues.  Ran some seafoam through the engine and it was much better then i when i got it but still have the check engine issue and some idle problems.

also getting the Flashing green lights on front wheels while in 2H but i am deff disconnected and running with 2. and when i try to shift into 4 get the yellow flash which i read is bad. But im not too worried cause this is just for running around to and from the stores. If 4X4 is toast then whatever, just want to make  make sure im not going to blow a transmision or diff.

My OBD scanner doesnt work cause of MUTT and dont really want to pay the local guy here the money to scan cause they are the most half assed mechanics i have met. Will try grounding pin 1 and getting a reading off the flashing. Does anyone have the code numbers?

Sorry this is all over the place. I am fixing some bushings on the rear end and a few other things. I just need this car to last till christmass and hopefully can sell if for a decent amount. Basically paid for it the same amount as it would have been to long term rent a car for 6 months so hoping i can sell it for similar or just a bit less then what i bough it for.

Hi!

is your engine a twin-cam GDI or a single cam MPI engine?

your 4x4 system will default to enagegd if anything breaks and the center lock is mechanically engaged so nothing will really blow up if the lights are not working as they should - likely a gearbox switch issue with lights etc

GDI. Ya I thought so for the

GDI.

Ya I thought so for the 4x4. the old lady i bought from said it 4x4 wasnt working/engaging and its not that big of a deal for me. Nothing sounds or feels wrong with the gear/diff/transfer.  so thats good.  I just want a working daily driver for a few months. The engine is the scary part.

Only other work it needs is new bushings for the rear.

rear bushings

bushings are common in the rear, every 120,000kms or so - the more you lift the more they wear - I run poly bushes that you can fit by hand - saves on pressing the bush out at a workshop

I believe you'll find that polyurethane bushes limit the flex.

Both poly & regular rubber bushes are available on ebay - I think the thread starter is somewhere in the Caribbean - Febest in Miami has an Amazon store, and I think they will ship anywhere.

bushes

if you did them all - yes you'd limit the flex - i leave the ones that are "solid" design as rubber but the ones with the cut-outs i replace with poly,

no issues so far, they pivot fine and have side flex too - and don't go soft and wear out fast when you've lifted it too far ;)

I am running the front diff bushes (expensive - but means you can replace without pulling diff and cv's out) and lower front bushes - love them!
