Potential new IO Owner, long time Mitsubishi enthusiast from Brisbane
Hi everyone! glad to see this group.. Im hoping to get more information about the Pajero IO released in Australia and possibly lead me into purchasing one for myself and my partner.
I must admit, I've only come across this site while I was searching for "Pajero IO 6A13" I guess my imagination have been thought of before. Just not sure if it came to fruition.
Anyway, my name's Christian and have been a long time fan of mitsubishi motors specially the 6A series engines. Simply due to their small displacement and high power output whilst keeping that realistic fuel consumption (when tuned).
Below is a small list of my previous cars since I started to drive.
'93 Galant with 6A12 DOHC non Mivec, not much mods due to being tight a$$ and starting to get into cars (traded in for vr4)
96' Galant VR4 with 6A13TT, mods - 3" custom exhaust, self made intake kit, COP kit, TME Tuned ecu, Brembo Brakes all round, Projector Headlight Conversion (stiwll with me)
'01 CE Lancer MR Coupe with 4G93 SOHC MPI - VR4 Brakes (Front - Twin Piston 298mm, rear FTO Disc conversion), COP kit, self made Air Intake Kit, Projector \ Headlight Conversion (written off due to getting rear ended)
'00 CE Mirage with 4G93 SOHC MPI (from previous car) - mods - self made intake kit, COP kit (from above), custom made battery tray and small battery, VR4 Brakes (from above), CE Lancer MR dashboard, re-flashed ecu, FTO Steering wheel, Headlight Projector Conversion.
Please try to have patience with a newbie and I'll try my best using the search funciton for the information I'd like to acquire and hopefully, in turn - be able to assist anyone/everyone as well :)
regards
Christian
thanks for the welcome!
Welcome to the forum, I hope that you will find whatever you need in here
Happy io
Wellllllllllllllcome, hope you fine an iO soooooooooooooooooooo. great little car :)
BTW few of us, here in the SEQLD
thanks for the welcome..
for the SE QLD members, would any of you mind if i take yours for a spin? nothing crazy or anything as I will most likely just use it for road use, mainly car i want to get is for my partner.
to add to my the reply..
im looking for an Io with the least rust, I dont mind if its high mileage as they're only numbers to me. Replacing engine wouldn't be so hard as my dad's a mechanic and I have acquired a bit of his knowledge/skill (some say)
what I would like the IO to turn into is something, fuel efficient, reliable, easy to drive even though its 4WD, something that can keep up with most cars on the road and most importantly something that can stop efficiently and effortless
for the above to happen, in my mind i have the following planned
1. install 8G VR4 brakes for the front.. which will be a 298mm ventilated rotors matched with twin piston calipers. As for the rear, unfortunately I have not looked into this. Will get there when the time comes.
2. Performance and Fuel Efficiency. 2 topics that shouldn't be together, but I'd like to believe that performance doesn't mean you have to sacrifice fuel efficiency. I'd like to see the balance between the 2... anyway plan on this, regardless if I get the 93 or 94 engine, Ive been looking at it and would like to think that the T25 turbo manifold from Kinugawa can fit. it looks like it'll fit. Then match it with a small turbo just to give it enough torque when needed.
3. the other mods can then be added later on. like better breathing aparatus, lift kit and better suspension. But as mentioned these things will be considered later on rather than prioritize it.
do I sound like a broken record yet?
met you before
i've come across you on the FTO australia and 4gtuner forums i think re: COP retrofits.
the brakes you want to get are the evo 3 / rvr hyper gear twin pots - they fit once the io disk is machined from 280mm to 276mm
rear just go a standard io rear disk setup.
suspension and lift has been done to death - easy
beter breathing - some rally guys run a 4g93T style turbo with evo 8 manifolds for racing - works ok but they only have the 1.8L.
yes, you may have

yes, you may have, but not sur eon 4gtuner.
re: brakes, if the evo 3 works, that confirms that it uses 130mm mounting tabs. Im a bit retarded when it comes to braking, the better the car stops the less I'll worry about my partner.
which evo 8 manifold are you referring to? intake or exhaust?
test drive
If you haven't find someone to give you a test drive.....you probably have:) but if not

Auto 2.0L
Hi NAUGHTIKA,
I have a 2.0L Auto and am located North Side Brisbane if you want to come for a spin/inspection etc.
Mines lifted with a few different mods etc
Not selling it anytime soon (keep it till death) but it does have higher km's, been bashed around but had consistent maintenance. Would be good for you to judge how they go with a few years of thrashing + regular maintenance..
I'll agree, they aren't speed demons but easily enough keeps up with traffic, does 100-130km/ph comfortably and are wicked off road.
My first 2 cars were manual but I have loved my Auto (regardless of being a "girls" variant haha **looks at you Claude** ;) )
Anyway let us know mate! You can't go wrong with IO.
Definetly through this forum and people like Claude , Fordem and especiall Bob my backyard mechanic skills have increased significantly.
Cheers,
Simmo
hey guys! I'm back and I may
hey guys! I'm back and I may have some good news
Im am in the process of purchasing this car..
http://www.carsales.com.au/dealer/details/Mitsubishi-Pajero-iO-2002/OAG-...
I haven't fully commited to it as I haven't seen it in person. I will be back in Brisbane this January 9 and will personally check the car.
hopefully its all good so I can proceed with buying it.
Future Mods...
- Projector Headlights
- COP Kit
- Side Steps
- Nudge Bar
- Sounds ?!
- 50mm lift kit
so wish me luck that I do end up with that car.. oh it's Manual... gf's got her own car now, which is a '01 Barina (auto)
yeah, unfortunately due to
yeah, unfortunately due to work changes i had to sell the Mirage and replace it with an auto Barina, so my gf can drive it while Im away for work.
was gonna get a car via lease, but thought it was too expensive for something I'll only driven every after 3 weeks and only mostly 2-400 kms for every rotation.
resale value
hey guys, just curious. Any of you planning on selling your car in the near future?
Cause I've just checked at redbooks and according to that website, the 2002 3door 2.0l model's current market value is at $4k +/-
im not entirely worried about it as I think we'll use it and hand it to my gf's parents eventually.
Im looking at the figures the car Im interested in is roughly $5k overpriced. But considering its condition and features that it's got I think I will still proceed with the purchase. As long as there aren't any rust.
what are your thoughts?
overprice
I don't think that your valuation is correct. The add for the io you are going to buy is no longer online but if I remember it is a 2002 ZR manual with close to 100 000kms. Redbook valuation for this io is between $4300 to $6000 with km between 195000 kms to 325000 kms. If all this is correct (from memory) that will put the value of the car you wanted over the $6000, mainly because of the low kms, so if they ask around 7 to $8000 it seem a fair asking price, again if it is a 2002 ZR with around 100 000km and in good order with service record
If you think that it is really overprice, no one will buy it ! wait till the price drop or negotiate the asking price. Don't forget that you have been looking for a while and you probably know that a black ZR with low km in good condition don't come often on the market....
My advice...I think you really want it.....GO AND GET IT :) maybe just try to negotiate a bit the price....
Happy new year
thanks

thanks for the reply, I just hope that this car doesn't have underbody rust. I have started buying stuff for it :D
cannot wait..
3 more days until i can see this car... the only thing that'll stop me now from buying this car is the presence of rusty body parts.. well if they are significant enough for me to worry about its structural integrity.
anyway, for the fun stuff, I have got the COP kit ready, Cold Air Intake (CF cylindrical ebay type) and the rubber mat for the rear compartment has just arrived,
bonnect protector is still over at SA and waiting for the seller to give me costs for postage.
Lastly I am considering getting FTO seats.
wish me luck and hopefully this car is as good underneath as it looks from the outside :)
:) thanks for your patience..
:) thanks for your patience.. I have been driving around and loving the car..
so far these are the only pics I have taken..
few things I found about this car.
- previous owners were siblings (1st owner - old lady who didnt drive it much then she gave it to her sister who also didnt drive it)
- car was maintained by Mitsubishi - next service is due on 135k kms or March 2016
- car's been rust proofed through out :) so that is a big plus!
- few scratches from stone here and there.. and a couple of dents which can be sorted out by paintless dent repair/removal
- engine's clean... as in literally clean - see the intake manifold's closer pic
- torque's awesome for its engine size
- still need to drive it alot to get better reading of the fuel economy / usage
- aircon's COLD! very very cold, I find myself needing to adjust the cold/hot settings
- car's not 2002, but May 2003 model :)
- color's not black but a dark purple / metallic / pearl dark trigger mauve
- rubber hoses, split conduits, wires still have that new feel to it - still rubbery feel and not brittle, hard or looking old :)
so what's next..
- I will hold off on installing the COP kit for now, until i get almost accurate fuel economy reading
- need to service it just in case :)
- need side steps - for my mum
- Projectors with HID's is a must
not for long :D
It really looks like a virgin... very clean :)
Enjoy it!
it wont be a virgin for long :D
anyway, car is now in hibernation mode.. before I left for work I filled up the tank with 37.3L and I managed to pull 430.3kms out of that.
So that's 8.66L/100kms not bad at all for a manual. I wonder if I can increase it's fuel efficiency. we'll see how the COP install goes next time I am back in Brisbane
