Short pause before starter engages?

Hi,

beg pardon if this has come up before, but when I turn the key in the ignition to start the engine, there sometimes is a slight delay where nothing happens before the starter motor starts doing its thing.

It doesn't seem to be a lack of power on the starter's side or anything , or no increased engine resistance either, no indicator lights fading or nothing. It just doesn't always go to work immediately. As soon as the starter does engage, the engine has always started flawlessly so far. So I'm not too worried.

But is it normal?

Might be an obvious one but

Might be an obvious one but have you checked the battery terminals?  Maybe they are dirty or not tight enough??

.

This or I think that someone had a similar problem from worn contactors at the back of ignition key system.

solenoid

that's a stuck or corroded solenoid

easy to fix - just need to pop the starter motor out  - you can reach the terminals from the front of the engine bay via the skid pan area.

using a screwdriver etc manually short the power wire and the activation wire and look to see if the delay is also there - if so it's the solenoid shaft, if not it's your key barrel.

my vote is solenoid shaft - bit moly grease and it will be fine
