Went for a drive with 6 others on Sunday. 2x patrols 1 JK 4 door, and a couple of other trucks i don't know . This was the mud track at rocky trail. the Patrol with 35s and front& rear lockers had a few attempts before me with no luck. I was next in line, the iO had NO problems at all! made it up effortlessly first go every go. i went up about 5 times. another patrol with 33s failed after many attempts the patrol with 35s eventualy made it after a few more goes and a big run up. The JK jeep also made it once he got a BIG run up. a guy we met with a suzuki on 30s also just made it. everyone else failed. Was sure one guy was going to smash his truck trying. they were really passed off getting out done by the mini 4x4s :)

Well done Glen. I love it

Well done Glen. I love it when the small "under estimated" IO kicks the "proper" 4x4's arse.

The same thing happened at the first 4x4 competition I entered with the IO. Coments like "does your wife know what your going to do to her car?", "shopping center is 5km back" ect was shouted but the little IOs pulled through. Two stock standard IOs ended up in the top 30 out of 80.

Anyway,

See you fitted 31" tires. No problem with body contact/rub? Did you fit wheel spacers and are you running stock rims?

Looks like fun! :) Do you

Looks like fun! :) Do you have to go up tracks a bit faster than usual because of the gearing? Does the iO still crawl fairly well with the big tyres?

LOL nice! i recon it feels ever better to kick there arse with all the comments.
the 31s rub the rear mud flaps when compressed on the right hand side only. not sure why, i think the rubbers in the control arms are worn.
The front tyres also rub on the front in the same spot as your tyres are rubbing at very close to full lock. I still have a nice small turning circle with no rubbing!

Yeah, its amazing how many people are amazed, Makes sense to me  :)
Where did you get the 1.5T from? I have not weigh it myself, yet, But 1.25T is what everything i have read said. I think I remember reading the latter model ones in the UK were up to 1.35T ish?. I was guessing that with my tyres and TJM bar id be up around the 1.3T

Its not tooooo bad, most of the time. I thought it would be a LOT worse with these tyres. I went up slower the first time. I crawl as slow as everyone else most of the time, but then the low range is not low enough even with std size tires!
Im not sure what would have happened if i had lower gearing and tried to crawl up. It really needed the momentum up on some spots. I think I may have been able to crawl up slower with the right low range gearing,  Ill have to test the theory once I have swapped in a lower low range gearset  Mind you I still did it a lot slower than anyone else!

This is what most people looked like trying to get up it. They started trying to crawl up and slowly got faster until this,  Run ups and FULL noise, WOT. This is how the Patrol with 35s and lockers finally made it up. So I dont think the iO did to bad.

Do you think that it might be the STD sway bars fault that its only rubbing on the RH side? I am planning to build an adjustable sway bar as with the 70mm lift you can clearly see the axle pulling to the LH side.

No sway bars on the rear in

No sway bars on the rear in Australia :) at least not on the older models, im not sure if any of ours have sway bars on the rear? Better without them on and off road anyway. I personally would not want them on the rear even for a road setup, the back slides out and drifts well enough with out them. it would not be balanced if it had a rear sway bars on the back, would cause more oversteer, I think its about perfect as is with no swap bar. I do plan to have a quick removable linkage to disable/enable the front sway bar for off road use also, try and get a full 250mm+ of flex up the front. better than the 90odd mm or less they have stock :)

The Panhard rod does need to be longer, that may be causing the effect your talking about, Maybe thats what you ment? On second look i think that is what you were talking about, Yes I think you might be right! I didnt think about that. as the diff moves to the left the right wheel would move forward and the left wheel would more back (I think) I only have 50mm lift at the moment and the axle is off to the left 15 maybe 20mm, and with another 50mm lift it would be way out. I did include this effect in a CAD drawing I did to see how much longer the panhard rod would need to be.
An adjustable panhard rod will be going on with the next installment of mods :) especially with the rear steer thats you pointed out is probable going on due to it! :)

As you can see, the Idea is to go to 33s for weekend playtime in the future :)

Meant the track-bar or as you call it a pan-hard rod.
