I need to replace the driver side front sway bar link on the Io. Mechanics quoted me $230 including parts (said $120 part because it's Mitsubishi original part only, can't find after market). Have you guys bought the sway bar link aftermarket? If yes, would any of you have the part number?

Also, to fix it, it should be a simple job of taking the wheel off, opening the bolts on the top and bottom connectors for the sway bar link, replace the sway bar link, lift wheel to align, and bolt every thing back. Right? Thinking of doing it by myself if that's the work required.

Nolathane part from Repco was cheaper for a pair

Check out this thread. Here is my post
http://www.pajerio.com/forum/knocking-sound-some-us-seem-have#comment-12918

One thing though: the noise is back and I think I may need to replace them again after only 5-6 months.
I've since raised the car so I might try to fit some new ones slightly longer and see if they last longer.

Size is not important; it's how you use it that matters!

Take one off ...

and take it down to your local auto parts place and have them find a replacement - it's not unique to Mitsubishi

Thanks guys. Had a read

Thanks guys. Had a read through, got some nice details and pics :)

I'll check with Repco for the Nolathene sway bar links pair for $50. Will also check the condition of the rubber.

Quick question, should there

Quick question, should there be any movement in those two bolts in the sway bar links?

Picked up the 42704, and they

Picked up the 42704, and they seem to be little smaller than the old links I had in my car. It had the universal links which you cut to size. I raised the wheel a little bit and it seems to fit after that. Is that fine or am I doing something wrong? I'll take some pictures and post.

Sway bar link

The 42704 is the correct one, from their site the measurement of the link are 60 mm with the ball joint parallel. (center to center)

The bolt should be tight....not loose as mentioned in your earlier post. And yes you may have to lift the wheel a little to fit them in.

Happy io

Thanks Claude :)

Changed :)

The old ones were in bad shape..and the bolts threads were crossed as well. Waiting for the Mrs to come back from her test drive to give me some feedback :)

If it's fixed, I saved her $190 bucks almost. And that money can go towards bob's bash plate :)
