Hi all.

been going through the tire suspension page, and there is a sticky note about a couple things. however does not give barely any info unless you read 200 messages back and forwards to people about it.

WHAT I WANT TO KNOW

  • What the largest tire size you can fit to a standard IO? (for hight) without having scrubbing or hitting issues

  • after installation of 2" blocks for the front and rear suspension, (to raise the body)  trition rear shocks (to give you back the travel lost in the rear) and 1" diff drop to remove some of the stress placed on the front end.

  • what is now the largest tire size you can fit to the standard Rims?  (for hight) without having scrubbing or hitting issues

i do not want to lift it any more then 2", I think this is the best set-up option for suspension / cost and performance. from what ive gathered the kyb and dobsin shocks for the front and rear do not give you any extra travel only a raised spring pan for the newer models which is apparently standard on them anyway. basically you just lift the body and lose travel with the higher raised springs. (please confirm) and using triton rear shock is a bolt in swap out, there just that little bit longer it gives you back the travel lost from raising the rear? anyone know what year modle were meant to look for with the tritan shocks?

if this is all correct can someone confirm or adjust? and this might be a good idea for a new sticky, standard tire fitments sizes. raised spring perch rear shock and front shock swap outs of people have used others? ect. looks like a heap of info from the same people scattered everywhere. if a few of you guys put it together we would all appreciate it big time :D

happy IO

depends on your existing struts

Maximum Tyre size with 'new model struts' which have a 265mm measurement from the bottom to the bottom of the spring pan weld: 225/75R16 which are 29". Standard are 27".

If you have an old model with old struts they will measure 245mm.
If you get new struts from KYB they will be the new type. If you use old model springs they will lift it by 20mm which is what a few of us have done. Then you can get a 30mm spacer on top of the strut to give you 50mm total, which is the limit of the CV angles without a diff drop. With all of this your iO will be 3" higher with the bigger tyres.

For the rear, you can get 40mm of lift with the king springs, or cheaper option, the front springs from a BA mazda astina which are the same. Stock shocks work fine with these and the rear articulation is far better than the front as is.
If you want more then there are few other ways to go about it, some hilux shocks work with modification, I'm not sure cos I haven't done that mod.

All the best :)

Size is not important; it's how you use it that matters!
