Towing Capacity... Maximums

Hi Everyone,

Lately I've been challenging my 1999, 1.8 manual 5 door Pajero io. It's braked towing capacity it 1500kg and I've been towing my horse float (800kg) plus one horse (500-600kg) this brings me up to around 1300-1400kg. All my towing gear is rated to 2000kg so that's fine. The car doesn't really struggle towing the float and horse and I'm under my legal towing capacity. But I've been getting some strange looks from passers by especially when they ask what engine/cylinder the car is, they basically laugh at me when they hear 1.8L am I just being cruel to my Pajero and waiting on something to spontaneously combust under the bonnet or do other people on here tow a fair bit as well ?????? I don't see a problem with it just no one believes me when I say this car tows my horse and float lol

Cheers guys

:)

Liz

lol

That the effect of the Pajero io. I got the same look time after time while doing some 4x4, they can't believe it can do it....but it can and sometime much better than other. Towing will wear your car faster, that is a sure thing, but if you go slow and don't push it too hard....This said, it is a lot of weight :)

Happy io

Don't hate me

Ok, I do some things by the book, and some things on the principal of "legal until caught" so no judgement please.

My io happily towed 2.5t unbraked from sydney to brisbane at 120kmh +

I do have the 2l, my towbar did squeak for a bit afterwards and I did engage 4wd down hills in the wet as the rear of my swb was a bit loose but apart from 15l/100km fuel economy all good
