Hi,

I am looking for any sort of bash plate/ under gaurd for covering from under the front bumper to over the sump area (the original is missing). I recently bought a 2002 io SWB and don't want to go offroad or on the beach until I get some sort of protection. Im not prepared to spend the money getting one made at this stage. Live in Perth, Western Australia.

Cheers

Ben

bash plate

i'd go and buy some 3mm steel plate

buy an angle grinder from bunnings (cheap one)

and about 8 cutting disks and cut out one as per the pdf.

the folding is something that is cheap - $15 a fold at most sheet metal places, approach them friday lunch time with cash so they can buy friday beers etc.

.

Ended up making a bashplate

Hi Nick,

Thanks mate but I ended up making one. It sounded like the original wasnt too amazing.

Thanks Bob_Oz and Claude for the advice I ended up making a 3mm mild steel one and painting it black. Wasn't too much work and was less than $70. Pretty happy with it (been on a month).

Here it is after a month.

great

Well done....and yes a lot stronger than the original one.....yes The main problem with the original one is that it doesn't protect at all the cross member.

tint

Glass tinting.....

If like me you have never done it....take your time, don't do it on a windy day outside (limit the dust),  Buy the little kit that is often for sale with the tint. Do the rear side first ( the easiest) and keep the rear window last (the hardest, even if it doesn't look like it !!). The hard part is to shrink the tint with the heat gun, the rear window is by far the one that need it the most. Once you put the tint on the glass, try to divide the "fingers" all around, it is better to have several of those than a single large one. The "finger" is where the glass is not flat, you have too much film tint. Buy a bit more than the minimum, in case you stuff one up and for training. For the first one don't try to cut it perfectly, train yourself to deal with the "finger" and to find and understand the perfect amount of heat to shrink them. Plenty to see on Youtube but most make it seems a lot easier !!

Try to have fun ! and don't forget to share your experience with us :)

I might do mine again, the one I bought on ebay (on the cheap side) have the color getting much lighter....still ok.

Happy io

Thanks

Thanks Claude for the advice. Sorry for the late reply. After a couple of weeks of deciding, I ended up returning the tint I got from supercheap auto. It was only $30 and was not worth my time as it would definitaly fade over time. I think I might save up for some metal based tint which will last.

Cheers

Should be in this link

Hi mate,

There is a dxf file somewhere on the website that can be used for plasma cutting a bash plate for protecting the sump area. I cut my own with angle grinder using the pdf provided on post 72 on the link- http://pajerio.com/forum/bash-plate?page=1. If anywhere the dxf file will be here or you may have to request from someone involved in that thread.

I did notiice that a couple of people in this forum got three cut and split the costs. I think it ended up $200 each. They were aluminum with  fancy Pajero IO writing.

Good luck.
