Glad to have come across this Site, kudos to it's creator!

Indeed there are not much resource sites/communities up yet for Pajero IO/Shogun Pinnin/TR4 Owners, I'm happy to have seen this site and I hope to learn alot from the Vets considering I'm just a rookie and alot of you here seem to clearly know what direction to take and mods you plan to do with your units.

My Dad recently purchased an IO unit coming off Japan a few weeks ago, it is a 4x4 1.8L GDI variant with a 4G93 Engine. Im excited about the recent purchase of the unit, our old car was an Isuzu MU or Rodeo which has faithfully served it's time with us, instead of spending on further repairs and improvements, we decided to let it go and get the IO as replacement.

Browsing through the forums I noticed that most of the owner's mods are leaning more towards the offroad modifications (lifting and big tires, etc..) As for me, I find myself drawn more to aesthetics and on trying to achieve a street/urban look to the IO...as off-road mods definitely require more resources which I think I can't handle hehe and our IO will mostly be driven in the City anyway..I hope it's still okay to be part of this community given this preference of mine=).

I am currently fascinated by the JDM tuning street style/scheme but so far I could not find any IOs/TR4s/Pinnins which have been tuned/styled/modified in such a way..would appreciate it if anyone could give me a heads up if there have been any sites you come across with such modified IOs or mini SUVs.

IOs are still limited here in the Philippines as far as I'm concerned and they usually turn heads as they have not been released here locally. I have done a few repairs and improvements already (small ones) and am hoping to do more as time and resources would allow.

Thanks for this community and I hope to learn alot from my fellow owners!

Cheers!

Welcome! Id like to see yours

Welcome!

Id like to see yours setup for the street! I think they would do well moded in this direction also!
I have seen one lowered and kited up for street usage, I cant remember where or what was done to it tho.

I have a set of coilovers for the front that will lower your car! I sent my design off to a suspension manufacturer in Asia and they must have not bothered looking at my CAD drawings or something because its 100mm lower, not  the 100mm raised I had designed. It will adjust from Standard height and allow as much lowering as you could ever want 100mm+ lower.. I thought about modifying them to suit my race car (there fully damping,  height and preload adjustable) to see how they compare to my Koni race inserts. But it you want them let me know.

Looking forward to your beast!, It will be one of the few moded in this way!

Thanks for the welcome Chief!

Thanks for the welcome Chief! I will get to posting photos up soon as I find the time..Not many mods have been done to our unit yet, minor body and paint works (a few dents and scratches), rim restoration, oil changed and spark plugs. I Had the brake pads (caliper-side) lubricated as well as they had been squealing like crazy even after I had just replaced the pads, good thing I found a fix online also as it appears that other Pajeros had this issue as well. The squealing has been (almost) totally eliminated since I had it lubed, will observe further though.

Right now we will be focusing on the valve lifters, as you know some Mitsu engines have that infamous ticking-sound. Our "ticking" just come up during the switching-on of the ignition right before when I start the engine. Were hoping to find the right set of replacement lifters and if they have ones with the "revised" design of larger holes (if I'm right), we reside in a province here in the Philippines, I hope we could find the correct lifters so that we wouldn't have to drive to Manila just to get some. Has anybody encountered this ticking sound? Is it in anyway harmful to the vehicle now that we keep using the IO even when the lifters have not been replaced?

Please do let me know if I have to move these queries of mine to another thread=) looking forward to your thoughts and feedback! thanks!

just joined this site

just joined this site hopefully looking for a filipino owner/member for me to ask some issues, like for example my check engine light is not working right before

i start the engine, which is i think a serious problem. we just bought the unit last febuary, I've run a couple of miles until such time that i have to check the timing belt, (i think needed to be replaced) i've been having a hard time to find the right one.  until one store in here in davao finally has one..

anyways, my concern what is the best engine oil brand i should use, i have tried TOP 1 fully synthetic, and mobil fully synthetic.. engines runs normal quiet, but im looking for 2nd opinion.. hoping you could refer to me something better and not that expensive..

thaks- marz of davao city, philippines

its not the RIDE, its the RIDER..wink

Welcome

Welcome to the forum.

Engine oil, without starting a thread on oil, truly synthetic or not....

I don't know the grade of oil that you are using, but while expensive to buy the mobil "fully synthetic" should be good. You could buy a "standard" oil (not the "synthetic")  they are cheaper, but usually not better.  (again, general idea, I am not starting an oil data technical discussion:))

For the engine warning light, it could be just the light bulb that needs replacing....other than that, I have no idea ! other might offer a solution. (we have a thread to how to remove the speedometer)

i apologize if i entered the wrong topic.. im not used to join in in a forum thing. lol

sir thank you for the advice, about the check engine light thing, i think its not the bulb, when we replaced the timing belt the mechanic noticed a socket under the belt tensioner i think, he said it was condemed, and when he checked the fused box the fuse in rhe check engine was also gone.. that made me wonderin there could be a problem right before we bought this car.. im not sure and also the mechanic because it was his first time to touched an IO.

what could be the possible reason sir? hope you can share something..

i hope. thanks.

all good :)

Ok, I have limited knowledge on this but if I properly understand you wrote that the light is never "on" even before starting the car. You mentioned that a fused was missing, have you replaced that fuse ?

My thinking is even if something is wrong with the light not working, you don't remove the fuse to potentially hide this problem, if the light is not working, removing the fuse is not going to change anything !!.

You would remove the fuse to cancel the light being "on" all the time, to hide a problem showed by the warning light being "on" all the time. This is a different problem all together, one being no light, the other with the light "on" all the time.

First I would replace that fuse, check the light bulb, this will give you a good starting base to check the rest.

The warning light being "on" all the time could be several problem, one is a faulty oxygen sensor, or other.

One thing, I find strange and were my knowledge is limited is  about this fused removed, I don't think that a fuse will control only the warning light, but would connect the electronic that control the warning light. I am not sure if the car would start without this system connected. (it might, I just don't know)

If after replacing the missing fuse, and check the bulb, the light is "on" all the time, you might have to find someone that can plug into the car electronic to check the system to find the fault, usually a Mitsubishi dealer.

For the timing belt tensioner...no idea...but it doesn't seem right !

Happy io
