Electronic headache
Hi guys,
My io's has suddenly picked up some electronical issues -
The folowing doesn't work: lighter adapter, radio, clock
The following only works with ignition turned on: central locking and electric windows
This happened while I was busy removing my roof interior to remove my roof carrier.
All that I can think of is that while taking of one of the two roof lights a short circuit was made and some fuse blown. However, I can't seem to find any of the normal fuses blown.
Any ideas of where to look or what could have happend?
Thanks!

Do your roof light working, I guess not, but checking. Try to find where they are connected, they may have their own inline fuse. The small black box are relay.
I had done something similar, the fuse 13 under the bonnet, next to the battery was the blown one. It is the one in the yellow plastic "frame" They are 2 in the plastic yellow frame, the one on the right (facing the bonnet)
Are you 100% sure on how to check the fuse, sorry only asking to try to help you, nothing else....

befudled
Hi Claude,
Thanks for the reply
Nope my rooflights do not work - will check if I can find the in line fuse
ITO checking the fuses, i pull them out and do a visual inspection to see if the conection between the two legs have burned out. If I am unsure/can't see the wire properly, I use the continuity setting on my multimeter to check if there is still a connection between the two legs.
THis problem seems to affect my ECU as well - the revs stutters a bit when the car idles. Also when switching on the car (before starting the engine) I can hear a clicking sound (relay switching??) for 2 seconds or so. This sounds seems to be comming from somewhere in the middle of my bonnet.
Any ideas? Think I might need to pay the auto electricians a visit

Maybe the throttle body servo initializing...
On my car I get several "thuds" or "clunks" from under the hood when the igntion is first switched on - I tracked the sound to the throttle body, I also checked another iO and found the same thing on that - put your hand on the throttle body, and have someone else switch the ignition on without starting the engine - if you feel movement in time with the sounds, that's what it is.
The iO uses a "drive-by-wire" throttle system, where the ECU controls the position of the throttle plate based on a signal from the accelerator pedal position sensor(s) - rather than a cable as used on older cars.
clicking sound
The clicking sound is normal, I hope so anyway :) all my io had it, not 100 % sure but I think that Fordem is right about this.
For the fuse, the way you do it is perfectly fine but time consuming. One thing that could happen is that your light are still faulty, best is to disconnect them (to be connected back once you find the fault). The light are probably connected to your battery, but it could be else where too !!
If you find a blown fuse and replace it while the fault is still there...here go the fuse again....
Another way to check the fuse, I don't remove them, they have their leg coming through at the top and I check continuity there. Another good way is put your ignition key on "acc" , get your voltmeter on "dc volt" the neg on a good earth and check the voltage on one side of the fuse, then the other side. The faulty fuse will have voltage on one side, not the other. That way you don't pass too much time removing them one at a time.
I hope will help

Success!
I found the culprit and it wasn't a fuse...
The yellow protective housing in which fuse 13 and 14 sit wasn'y properly pressed down... a quick downwards press and everything is as it should be
Thanks for all the helpful advice, at least I learnt about the fusebox by the driverside and how to easily check for blown fuses.

Have you checked both fuse panels
There are two fuse panels, one under the bonnet, and the other under the dash (remove the driver's side storage pocket/bin thing)
