no no and no

no no no

the 4G9X bolt pattern is unique,

the outlander motor will not fit.

you could do what I was looking at which was:

grab the gearbox from a V11W or similar 2.4 petrol full-size pajero and split the gearbox at the exnension housing gasket (in red below) - then use the io extension housing to adapt the 2.4 gearbox into the io extension hosuing and rear drive train, then run a 2.4 4G6X motor or evo 8 motor.
you would need to run the Io main gearbox shaft as it is longer and suits the longer extension housing.

exhaust may swap sides (evo motor it is on the io side)

engine mounts and the rest would be interesting and I have no idea if the main shafts could be easily grafted across.

the $$$ spent would easily afford a 2.0L lancer motor and some performance work/ piggyback chip etc.

or

or go the evo turbo from an evo 8

or go the 2.5L 4cyl TD motor

or go a V6 (won't fit)

though again for the money you could get a turbo or super charge kit or a hot NA high-torque setup.

Thanks Bob, That clears that

Thanks Bob,

That clears that up.  Bugger.  I'm so keen for extra cc's without going high performance.

Realistically the 2.0L with slight mods is looking like my better option or at least the most feasible.

Thanks for clearing that up ....the schematic looked promising on my phone without my glasses on.

Fab.
